Newbie Forum Discuss, Cd-r, Cd-r, Cd-r, Dvd...dvd What?!? at International Chat: General Topics forum; Actually, I know most people talk about CD-RW Drives and whatnot, but I have a question. I personally hate DVD ROM drives on a computer...but someone wants me to build them a computer that has one. I can understand it for ripping DVDs or taking snapshots to upload

Actually, I know most people talk about CD-RW Drives and whatnot, but I have a question. I personally hate DVD ROM drives on a computer...but someone wants me to build them a computer that has one. I can understand it for ripping DVDs or taking snapshots to upload somewhere, or sample your favorite audio bytes....But I don't know the 1st thing about DVD ROMS...Well, I know there are hardware decoders and software drives, and through some little experience could not even tell the slightest difference between my Creative PC-DVD setup and some cheap junk drive. Can anyone recommend a good, yet cheap DVD ROM drive, please? I'd really appreciate the info.

Why do you hate DVD-ROM's?

They are very useful, there is even games and multimedia applications such as world atlas and other things to be found on DVD. Byside that I don't have a TV so I watch my DVD-movies on my computer.

My recommandation is to get a Lite-on LTD-163 DVD-ROM, if that one is not availible take a look at toshiba, they also make good DVD-ROM's.

Get a toshiba dvd, it already can read dvd-rw and dvd ram.
Works great with clone-cd.

perhaps,

but why don't they advise it for clone-cd?? just curious.
Toshiba reads all subchannels etc, even dvd-rw.
It is prepared for the, near, future.

The LiteOn flashed with the latest firmware is also capable of all that, and there's also a firmware hack available to make it region free.....
