CD/DVD Burner dying?

Hey all, For the past couple of weeks I was worrying that I was using the burner too much, and tonight was the shock!

I usually use my cd burner about 5 times a day and had well over 200+ burns on it (its a philips DVDRW from jan 2006) . Well tonight I was burning a audio cd and at the end, the drive kept spinning and it wouldnt eject, I would hear some weird sounds. I instantly shut down the computer. When I restarted the cd/dvd DRIVE worked, I am going to burn another audio cd to see if that still works?

CDfreaks help, what does this mean of my cd/dvd burner?

Re: CD/DVD Burner dying?

Weird sounds coming out from a drive are not good news, but you can have several events causing it. Don't expect the worst, besides it can happen.
Drives use to have medium term working hours up to 100,000 hours and you may be well away from that.
Discs can cause it also, media not in good conditions or not properly inserted.
But if you got it less than one year ago, try again and if it reproduces the prob consider to "activate" the guaranty.

I agree with agomes... Also; run another burn with the highest quality disk you can get your hands on. Turn off any TSR software except for you essential security stuff and see how you go. Any more funny noises and you might truly have a dud drive. If it's within warranty then you may have a claim for replacement.
