Newbie Forum Discuss, Can console game discs br duplicated? at International Chat: General Topics forum; I don't own a XBox or PS2 or any console gaming device. But someone asked me this question: Can any game disc for console games be backed up and can the back up disc be used to play instead of the original?

I don't own a XBox or PS2 or any console gaming device.

But someone asked me this question: Can any game disc for console games be backed up and can the back up disc be used to play instead of the original?

The games can be copied but to play them you have to have a chipped box.

So one can never make an exact replica able to be played in any XBox then. Only the original can be played in any XBox.

What is it about the original that allows it to be played in any XBox?

To put it simply, the PS2 and Xbox have protections in place which do not allow burnt games to be played. With the aid of a "modchip" these backups can be loaded just like originals.

What's funny is that you can stick in a DVD-R movie which is multiregion into a PS2 without a modchip and it will work fine. Do the same with a DVD-R game, and you'll get treated to the red screen of death.

plus if u have a modchip, u can burn ur games on the hard drive if u can find the os... which i cant find...

But of course the down side of mod-chips is that you have to get them over the net, and that means time for dad's credit card...
