| burning problem- blank dvds after succeded burning Hi all, I'm new to this forum but I think it's the one for cds/dvds issues.. I have a problem in burning dvds.. I've tried 3 times to burn some stuff on dvds but everytime after I finish i try to use the dvd and it would be entirely blank(using windows explorer) and showing 0bytes used... using alcohol i can see that the dvd is not empty with the right amount of used space on the properties window this is really strange and I've tried 3 dvds until now... these are all the information: 1- the dvd writer is Nec and I'm using Inspiron 6000 Notebook 2- the dvds I'm using are sony dvd+r 8x and I've used dozens of them before and never had any issues (using the same laptop) 3- I'm using Nero 6 I really need to get the data on one of these dvds as I've deleted in from my hdd that was the first one and I forgot to make sure everything is alright with the dvd beofre deleting the files.. Many thanks |

| Re: burning problem- blank dvds after succeded burning Hi! Well some weeks ago I've been having exactly the same problem as you do! I Had a Pioneer DVR-106 A06 dvd writer which I've been using quite a while now and some day I observed that after the burning procedure (which by the way was succesfull) all my burned dvd discs seemed to be empty when i browsed then on the windows explorer. So what's wrong you might be asking? The thing is that the laser of the DVD writer deteriorates over time, especially when its used a lot, thus not making such a good burning (engravement??) on the disc. This is a natural result which is caused after a long time on the dvd recorder. I managed to learn all that from a specialist salesman, when i went to buy a new dvd recorder. Don'y worry so much about your files, because the most probable is that your discs will be read from a new dvd recorder or a friends. My suggestions are: 1)To check in a different drive the discs you have already written, because probably they will be ok and you will be able to make a new backup of your files. 2)Also if the discs work fine, then it means that you probably need a new dvd recorder for your computer. But you are the one who knows better about this matter, because you know its use over time. Check to see if your dvd writer is still on the warranty and maybe you can cover its expenses that way. Otherwise you will have to buy a new one if the old one is faulty. Hope this works!! Good Luck Byez!!! |
