You want to make a DVD with a CD-RW drive? HAHAHA. Hence the name CD-RW (compact disc [CD]), not DVD+/-RW. You can create a (S)VCD with your CD-RW drive and play it on your DVD player if your DVD player supports (S)VCD.

Check out www.vcdhelp.com for information on (S)VCD, if your player supports it, and how you can create one. If you have any trouble, just let me know.

First of all, read the rules of the forum (for illegal stuff)... But for know let's all pretend that movies you've got are legal, how the hell do you want to put them in a DVD since you don't have a DVD recorder?? . But since you said you're a newbie, I'll suggest wandering in CDFreaks to seek your answers there. If you again haven't realised what you've gotta do, the ask us again.

Cuz , it was not meant to insult you , but if you post Cd writer instead of dvd writer , this sort of replies can take place.

As to all users on the forum we suggest the search button. There are zillions of questions all going about topics which have been discussed at least several hundred times.. and that sometimes make people go a little edgy

Second , i don't care if you are doing illegal things or not, that's up to you alone. But you can't ask questions about illegal matters in this forum. It's a part of the rules. And as Redhatted already said. we don't know , so the benefit of the doubt is given. But you gotta admit.. if you say you download movies off the internet in these times.. it's quite unlikely it's not copyrighted material.

peace ?

That is why I like this guy so much. Read this thread earlier and thought: oh no, another illegal downloader. But he didn't type anything illegal. So there are two ways: this guy downloads all kinds of family parties from internet or he is smarter than he says. Haha

I'm a little lost here iam not trying to be ungrateful but it seems the only thing any one has pointed out is what a dumbass i am. i sure everyone of you has made a mistake once or maybe even twice in your life. but i thought these forums were to help others out. i did do a search on this subject and it only came up with topics on using cd writers. your first assumption is i just came on here and posted a question with out doing any kind of reading and that is not so. I would not have posted if i hadn't felt I needed to. so far there has been 4 replies to this thread to critisize me but none to help. if you don't feel a need to help the person out posting just move on. Now if anyone has a solution to my problem i would appreciate the help.thanks

(sigh) i tried to defend you and all i get .. oh well

Back to the original problem it is then.

So , you got an .avi file.
And you want it on a dvd.

First of all. HOW do you want it on a dvd ? Do you want it to be playable on any dvd player by the same method as the dvd's can rent at the video store , OR , do you just want them burned as data (same as a data cd-r , but only more megs per dics).

If it's the latter , it's easy. Get your dvd burner proggy (nero ?) and burn it as data on the dvd-r

If it's the first , that's going to be tricky. DVD's have menus and don't really handle movies in the format of .AVI. Usually , those .AVI are DivX encoded movies. Which is an mpeg standard with MP3 audio. So you first have to decode that movie to a normal mpeg standard , which the dvd burning software can use.

Check out this guide, http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm. It walks you through encoding a file to a dvd compliant mpeg2 stream. From there you should be able to author the dvd with your dvd software.

avi??

you can use the new nero 5590 to convert the file to vcd.

use the video setting in nero.drag the avi file in the lower left box.

burn. it will then encode the avi file to mpeg1.

anyway on my p3 733 it takes about 2 hours to convert avi to mpeg1

then it automatically burns to disc

you will not be able to play it on your computer unless you have a vcd player program.

but it plays in most dvd player(i said most not all so dont be dissapointed)
but to convert to mpeg2 is a special frontend it cost about 15 dollars at the ahead website.

if the the estimated avi conversion is too large .use virtual dub
(its a freeware) to cut the avi files

dont say your dumb! ignorant doesnt mean your dumb

i recommend a book you read anthony robbins "awaken the giant from within"

Ok now that is said,

I will put my 2cents.
You can use Nero to burn it on the dvd. There is software that may have came with your burner. Im not sure which burner you have so I have no idea what the software that came with it, is called. Nero does have a encode and it does take a while to convert the file from avi to mpeg. Just remermber if you are using Nero you will need to tell Nero to burn as a vcd. Although I havent tried this because I do not have a dvd-r/rw drive, only cd-rw.

TMpgenc is a excellent program that can convert the avi to mpg.

Ok there is a way to play VCD's on a pc. It involves the use of Windows Media bloatware player. Right on the file you want to play, while clicking on this, hold the shift key down and click open with....look for media player and use it, make sure you dont leave the check mark in the box.

Good luck with the dvd writing. And if you need help dont be afraid to ask for it. Thats what we are here for. When you first start out, it can be a little rough.

I think the man is trying to recreate a DVD from an avi file. DVDs you buy at the store are encoded in MPG2, so the first step is to encode to MPG2. The next step is to master the DVD, which is an area I wouldnt know too much about. But I would assume that the burning program included with your dvd burner would have the ability to do it. If not check out http://forum.digital-digest.com/foru...php?forumid=14 or www.dvd-digest.com for more info on what to buy.

I realize most of this kind of thing has already been stated above but there it is again.

On thinking further on this subject I realized that the MPeg 2 file would only be about 1.4 gigs, and thus could easily be broken into two files then burned on to two cds as vcds. Costing only $2 or less compared to burning to DVD. Of course if you don't have a cd burner your out of luck.
