| AnyDvd Question Hello: While I'm not new to computers, I am to backing up my dvd's. My question is this for "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" . I'm using AnyDvd (registered) and this is what shows when I put the movie in: Summary for drive F: (AnyDVD 6.0.1.1) Drive (Hardware) Region: 0 (not set!) Media is a Data DVD. Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite) Size of first Layer: 2079760 sectors (4062 MBytes) Total size: 4159506 sectors (8124 MBytes) Video DVD (or CD) label: LXG_169 Media is CSS protected! Video Standard: NTSC Media is locked to region(s): 1! Found & removed RCE protection! DVD structure appears to be correct. Structural copy protection not found. Autorun not found on Video DVD. Bad sector protection not found. Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1! Do you all see any problems with this or is this ok? It seems to me that "Media is CSS protected!" indicates that it didn't remove it. How about "Drive (Hardware) Region: 0 (not set!)"? Problems? I have 1clickDVDCopy Pro, WinAvi Video Converter, and VSO ConvertXDvd. I have yet been able to successfully back up a dvd. I get error messages almost at the end of each encoding. But that will be for another posting. Right now I'm interested in the AnyDVD log above. I'm have a Gateway computer with AMD 64 X2 chip and 1 gig ram. XP Media Center... Many thanks! |

| Re: AnyDvd Question yup, haveacigar is correct. when it says that the media is CSS protected, that just means that anydvd has detected CSS protection and has removed it. are you asking because you could not rip this movie? |

| Re: AnyDvd Question First of all, thanks to Mr Cigar for the quick response. And same to you Mr Reason. Yeah, I'm asking because I have several different burning/backup programs and I'm having bad luck on them all. I have no problems getting vob files, it's the burning that I have issues with. I keep getting error messages no matter the program several minutes into the burning. I'm beginning to think it's my dvd burner (TSST Corp TS-H552D). My dvd rom is a Philips DROM6216. Both internal and came with the computer. I'm having problems with this movie and Batman Begins. I haven't tried any other movie yet... |

| Re: AnyDvd Question Oops! My sincere apologies. I'm used to this being a male-dominated hobby. I'm certainly off to a rolling start. I hope at least Mr Cigar is a Mr... The media I'm using is Memorex DVD -R 16x. The program you mention shows it as CMC being the manufacturer. The burner is a TSST Corp TS-H552D and the dvd player the movie is sitting in is a Phillips DROM6216. Both internal drives. My current stable of products I'm failing with are: DVD2one2, WinAvi, AnyDVD, 1ClickDVDCopy Pro, and VSO ConvertXtoDVD. All registered. I didn't save any error messages except for DVD2One2 which said "Write Data Failed Sense Key 03, 73, 03". On their message board someone with a similar error message had a response that it was his burner that is causing the error message. For what it's worth, I've been able to use ConvertXtoDVD to burn a 700meg avi movie to dvd that plays nicely on my dvd player. Thank you Madame! |

he likes to think so, but we all know the truth ![]() and I concur with jhtalisman. we can't really diagnose any type of burner issue until we get you on some decent media! verbatim branded discs from any store are great quality as are taiyo yuden discs (mostly only available online these days). attempt to burn one of these types of discs under the same circumstances that you received errors before. 9 times out of 10 this solves the problem. also, in the future stay away from memorex! | |

| Re: AnyDvd Question I had grown up using Memorex cassette tapes for all my music and figured that a name brand like that couldn't go wrong. I wish I found this forum before I bought both + as well as - blanks. You guys (and gals) are the best. |

| Re: AnyDvd Question Memorex buys their discs from the cheapest vendor it can arrange bulk quantity deals with which winds up costing considerably more down the road for the end user. Not many burners can burn CMC made(with the exception of Verbatim branded) discs with enough quality and consistentcy for long term use, but for everyday temp discs are ok. I use TY for long term storage, movie backups and everyday use. But then again, worst case scenerio I have enough of them to last at least 2 years.

| Re: AnyDvd Question there's nothing wrong with memorex itself...it's just that they're cheap bastards. they buy from whichever manufacturer is cheapest...and it's often not good discs. verbatim discs are reliable...they use the same media ID 99% of the time. with memorex, you've got about a 1 in 6 or 7 chance of knowing what's inside the package when you buy it...and about 6 out of the 7 choices aren't that great. i started out with memorex dvds as well...and my very first spindle of 50 resulted in 50 coasters within 3-4 weeks. then i found this site...so you're not alone ![]() |
