Blank Media Discuss, very hot after divx playback at International Chat: Hardware related forum; hi all, my cd-r's become quite hot after i played a divx from cd. I wondered, could this be bad for the lifetime of the cd-r media? I always play them in a cd/dvd-rom so perhaps these cause more heat then normal cd-roms.

if the program has problems readings with your cdr it can spin like hell...and so the cdr becomes hot

if it becomes to hot..it is bad for the drive and the disk

it doesnt have problems reading, it just gets hot cause its reading for quite some time (its about divx so depends on length of the movie) on the same disc...
So u guys think its worth it to copy first the movie to the harddrive and watch it from there or isnt that necessairy?

I don't know if it's bad for your CD-R discs but I had the same 'problem'. I solved it by using Nero DriveSpeed (included with Nero Burning Rom) with which you can set the read speed of your drives. For DivX a read speed of 12x - 20x would be sufficient and it also reduces the produced noise a lot. I never had hot discs again...
