Blank Media Discuss, Which Verbatims for Samsung SH 203B? at International Chat: Hardware related forum; I've heard verbatim is a good brand and I have a choice for either a 50 pack of DVD-R or DVD+R at the place I go to. But one thing is.. they are only 8x? Should I look elsewhere to get 16x ones? http://www.wintroniccomputers.com/

Which Verbatims for Samsung SH 203B?

I've heard verbatim is a good brand and I have a choice for either a 50 pack of DVD-R or DVD+R at the place I go to. But one thing is.. they are only 8x? Should I look elsewhere to get 16x ones?

http://www.wintroniccomputers.com/w...104f2c0ac22000f

The link there shows the DVD-R.

Which should I use for the 203B? I've tried reading through the "which is better" posts, but all this is new to me.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Which Verbatims for Samsung SH 203B?

My S203B excels at burning Verbatim 8x DVD+R (MCC-003). Haven't tried the 8x -R's yet.

Your link is broken, but if the listed price on that 50pc. spindle of 8x Verbs is $24.99 Cdn. before shipping you're paying too much. You can find a better price elsewhere in Canada, eh?

Re: Which Verbatims for Samsung SH 203B?

The 8x -R Verbatims turned out to be my least favorite yet. I'd look around some more and find the 16x +R disks.

I've burned the 8x -R disks in a Pioneer 111L and my new SH 203B. I've had 3 out of 25 that were complete failures. The last one wouldn't complete a TRT scan. Never had problems with the 16x +R variety.

Those Verbatim 16x DVD+R are widely compatible with DVD burners and usually produce very good results. They are some of my favourite media, although I don't have a Samsung SH-S203B myself.

Re: Which Verbatims for Samsung SH 203B?

Seems the 203B fw SB01 likes the MCC 03RG20 ok. At least i just ordered 200 MCC 03RG20 and 200 MCC 004 for my other drives (Verbatim Fullface printable). The 203B isn't bad with MCC004 and with a switch in write strategy it seems jitter can be very low. Anyway i rather not mess with fw so i'll use the +R for my other drives and the -R for the Samsung at higher speed. I have some Infiniti MCC 02RG20 and they seem to burn well in the 203B as well
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...postcount=1768 The Infiniti MCC 03RG20 have high PIE - otherwise they seem fine

Here's 2 Verbatim Glossy printables. One burned at 12x and one at 16x. There was a glitch in the 16x burn and the write speed adjusted to 12x. Atm i don't want to waste more discs to find out if it's a problem but i don't think so. I look forward to check the FF printables

Excellent burn.

I haven't been lucky with MCC 03RG20.

You're not the only one. And I think CJ2 has been very lucky with this outstanding batch.

I'm talking PIE/PIF scans here, not actual usability which seem to be totally OK with MCC 03RG20 even with the lesser batches. But I also prefer the +R version (MCC 004) myself.

As for MCC 02RG20 (8X -R), the kinda lesser scans are totally compensated by the mindblowing real-world performance, stability, and compatibility with readers, the latter being way better than TYG02 or any other 8X media showing better PIE/PIF scans. Except RITEKG05 which is the king of compatibility with readers, but it comes at the price of its infamous short lifespan.

I DO recommend the 8X -R Verbs, IMO it's even a sligthly better bet than the 16X +R, not in terms of PIE/PIF scans but in terms of expected lifespan and wide compatibility with readers. But I admit that I'm myself using almost exclusively the 16X +R now...

I'll let you guys know when i get refreshments from svp Monday or Tuesday
For now i just hope the -R discs are slightly better for the 203B than the +R * qualityscan wise. I'm a little surprised my (in all other drives) nearly perfect MCC004 doesn't scan well when burned in the Samsung so i hoped they maybe made better compatibility with the MCC 03RG20?? We'll see

Re: Which Verbatims for Samsung SH 203B?

My older Sammy (SH-S182D) likes the 16x +R Verbatims (MCC004) - no matter where they were manufactured, so I'd say give those a go.

With the many varieties of MCC media it's hard to know if the write strat will work good or not for any drive. You just have to get some and experiment.

Good point : I noticed that my newest batch of CMC-made MCC004, which is simply fantastic @8X and @12X, doesn't burn as well @4X, though all my previous MCC004 gave their best results @4X burning!

I agree with Francksoy about the MCC02RG20 8x -R Verbs. CJ2's scans show they buirn nicely in the 203 @ all supported speeeds. 6x looks great though.

Not sure about the 8x, but if you go with 16x, +R, stay away from packaging that says Made in India. Most of mine produce good burns, but the consistency of the other variations just isn't there.

Re: Which Verbatims for Samsung SH 203B?

First i made a 18x test with these Verbatim MCC 03RG20 and it looks as promising as i hoped. Almost as good QS as these MCC 004 at 8x with my Pioneer or Optiarc. PIE is generally somewhat higher but PIF and jitter is on par with the 16x +R

Re: Which Verbatims for Samsung SH 203B?

Here's a 12x burn from same box as above. It seems the 203B is pretty competitive with 16x -R's from Verbatim. The FF printable i buy are all CMC made. Out of 20+ boxes of +R (MCC 004) i once got two boxes with bad discs (quality scan wise). All other have been a real pleasure like these i got today. The Verbatim non printables are more variable imo - meaning i get MBI, TY, Prodisc and CMC. In total the CMC made ones have been the best for me. Glad to see this also applies to the -R now i got he Samsung

Re: Which Verbatims for Samsung SH 203B?

18x burn scanned in the 165P6S @ 16x looks bad. You should TRT with that drive to see what it says. I bet there might be a slowdown/uncorrectable error.

Re: Which Verbatims for Samsung SH 203B?

Wow hard to believe it didn't even slow down. That Liteon must have great error correction. My Liteon combo drive is very similar. Will only show TRT slowdowns when the PIF is about 30+ high and in large clumps. Anything below and it doesn't usually slow down much.
