Blank Media Discuss, The Taiyo Yuden FAQ at International Chat: Hardware related forum; TY CD-Rs do not always come in the TY cakebox as the DVDs do. But 99% of all MIJ CD-Rs you can get are TY (there are some TDK and Ricoh left, but thats all I know of). One way of identifying TY CD-Rs is the "frosted"

Re: The Taiyo Yuden FAQ

Does media listed in the original post as "MIJ" have a "Made in Japan" inscription printed on it ? Conversely does media listed there without "MIJ" not have "Made in Japan" printed on it, although it is made in Japan (if original) ?

The Verbatim MIJ and the Maxell 4x +R MIJ both have "Made in Japan" on the packaging. I can't remember for the Panasonic 4x -Rs, as it was two years ago now.

Edit: Plextor TY media also says MIJ on the packaging.

I'm talking about media bought in England, BTW, but it *should* be the same in Europe.

Re: The Taiyo Yuden FAQ

I was referring more to the convention used (if any) than to individual situations of brands and labels. Since all TY media is made in Japan, it seemed logical that the extra 'MIJ' attribute used in the original post (which only some models have) referred to another feature, namely an inscription on the packs. Is it so ?

Unless they are deliberately lying to you, the outside packaging should state the country of origin.
  • Made in Japan = MIJ
  • Made in Taiwan = MIT
  • Made in China = MIC
  • Made in India = MII
It will acutally be spelled out "Made in Japan" on the label. Many here abbreviate down to the 3 letters because they are typed so often. So you might see MII MCC004 vs. MIT MCC004 to differentiate between Made In India with Mitsubishi Chemical Company 004 "dye" Verbatim 8X DVD +R from those Made in Taiwan.

Trivia: I believe I have actually seen media made in Malayasia but a search for MIM on CDFreaks turned up nothing (see my signature ). MID is not "Made in Denmark"; it stands for Media IDentifier and is refering to one of those cryptic MIJ TYG02 (Made in Japan, Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-R) codes.

Could someone post a picture of an original TY cd?

Thanks.

Taiyo Yuden CD codes

Is there a thread here or another resource that lists Taiyo Yuden CD codes, that is the character string(s) found on the inner ring of the disc (not the MID) ?
I searched the forum but didn't find anything useful.

Re: The Taiyo Yuden FAQ

The CD hub codes?
I only know that a TY CD has two hub codes, one long hub code in the frosted hub (like 4L562B0123380, which is now round and following the hub, while it didn't and was printed straight into the hub before 40x), and a short hub code (like 80 PG1247) which is information about the length of the disc.
If you only want to know whether a TY CD is genuine, just look at the hub. If it's fully frosted, yes. If only a part is frosted, it's MBI.

There aren't official TY distributor media outside Japan, except offices for all TY activities,in Gernany (for Europe), and USA.-TY work as OEM in common knows media brands, and rest of each production available to resellers, depends on value for money in each production line.

Unfortunately NO.
-We are talking about That's retail products
http://www.thatscd-r.jp/index.htm

-In "diskimpex" catalog there are some unbranded TY discs named by marketing "That's" ,but are also same as TY value lines products.
Company marketing force customers buy these unbranded discs as similar with lower price ,but not always good and stable in quality as retail.
