I have not tried it on inkjet surfaces, but I found out that you need only a smooth surface. Since I do not have an inkjet printer capable for CD/DVD printing I do not have any inkjet media in my stock.

For example I have genuine TY CDs:

"Shiny Silver for AUDIO"
"Prism gold" (for data)

The audio CD does not seem to have any special coating for printing. The "prism gold" has a special yellow/gold coating on the top surface for thermal printing. I can print both media very well, and the writing is pefectly fixed and I can not rub it easyly down.
I tried it to print on an branded CD media and on this media I could not print with the thermal printer.

Re: The Taiyo Yuden FAQ

Are these Taiyo Yuden from Rima.com the premium line or the value line of Taiyo Yuden?

Re: The Taiyo Yuden FAQ

1 more fact should be added to the TY FAQ:
Q: i'm in the UAE (United Arab Emirates), can i find any TY products in the local market?
A: Simply NO, they only have Imation, Sony (SONY MIDs) and MIT Verbatims, brands apply to both DVDs and CDs.

Re: The Taiyo Yuden FAQ

This might seem rather basic, but what does MIJ stand for? I have been using DVD's for a while, and now need CD's for a few things but a quick search showed quality has changed with brand names. I need to make slipstreamed Windows XP install disks for some people, including myself, but I obviously need media that will be written to correctly, and last for some time. And I am using Verbatim DVD media, from what I have seen it has good burns, and holds up for a long time. (So long as you don't go over the rated speed.)

It means "Made In Japan" - if it's not Made in Japan then it's not made by Taiyo Yuden.

Re: The Taiyo Yuden FAQ

Thank you DrageMester.
As for the welcome, thanks for that as well. I have used information on the site before, but it's always been so through and informative, I haven't had to ask a question until now. I don't use it all the time, but when I do, never had a problem.

Re: The Taiyo Yuden FAQ

Thanks for the info again, and especially the opening post/posts with the ID info. I got a 10 pack of CD-R's (not cheep... like $15) that are the Taiyo Yuden media. Kinda needed for slipstreamed OS install CD's.

Re: The Taiyo Yuden FAQ

You've been ripped off it seems, lol. Getting them in 50 or 100 packs may be cheaper.

I know I was, but that was not a big concern. I don't need to keep data on CD's long very often. Almost never, so I don't need a lot of good quality CD's. Most of the stuff I do involves making a MP3 disk for use in the car in very rare times, testing things out, ect. The only things I need to archive would be something like slipstreamed XP install disks. I don't maintain a lot for systems that I build myself so the last thing I need is a bunch of HQ media that won't be used. If I wanted to, I could have ordered online and gotten a a 50 pack for around $25 with shipping. And should I even need to make bulk things for archival needs, I will order online. But with the 10 pack, I will be using I think a total of 4 and I need one for this week.

It's all need, and I didn't need much and I needed one soon. I had the money, and in all honestly, I didn't mind paying that much because of how long they will sit there blank.

You don't need to use CDs for this, assuming the computers have an optical reader that can read DVDs.

DVDs work just as well. I think they work better because they burn and boot faster. I like discs I can put in my pocket so I use the mini size DVDs.

I know, but I also use UBCD4Windows on systems with only CD-readers. Plus, it seems like a waste of a DVD for just the OS install image.
