Re: Riteks g05 Good Or Bad??

Many, of us here have clearly documented how some Ritek G05s have decayed after just a few months and become unreadable. There does not seem to be a specific characteristic we can find that will identify how to avoid these bad discs. Although not all G05s are bad, there are more than enough to be a serious problem, especially as you never know that they will die until months after the burn.

Based on this problem, as well as a series of other really bad discs, it would be prudent to avoid Ritek altogether.

I would get some Ricoh from Allmediaoutlet.com. They are superb, at 4X, very good at 8X, and sell for $19 after a ricoh4off coupon.

Re: Riteks g05 Good Or Bad??

So far my R03s have been OK, but I have no reason to trust Ritek anymore. They got me twice, with G04s and G05s, and that is all they get. Besides, these days I can get Verbatim MCC 003s for the same price as R03s

Same feeling here. Even if the +R seem to not have these issues associated with their -R, I'm done with Ritek.

I still bought Maxell-branded G05 until recently, now even with these I started having problems.

When TY and MCC are so cheap these days, why bother with uncertainities. Maybe Ritek, which HAS the capacities and savoir-faire to manufacture great discs, will sometime get back to serious work. Until then, I pass.

Couldn't have said it better.

I have to remove my recommendation for these Ricohs. I got a few superb burns and then 7 bad burns in a row, on 4 different burners. Guess some of these were defective.

Nothing suprising. There are many good G05 out there. I have about 60 totally stable Traxdata and Maxell G05s. The problem is you never know what you'll get next. Also what I don't like is the fact it's sneaky: great burn, so you don't worry, then unreadable disc after several weeks... ouch. I prefer having coasters right from the start, at least they're in the trash and re-burned, not a time bomb in my movie collection
