Q regarding Philips DVD+R DL 8x media

Hi mates,

Need help regarding media identification and it's quite urgent... So here is the story:

I have had great success with Philips DVD+R DL 2.4x media which were manufactured in India (Ricoh dye) but had terrible results with the made in Taiwan ones (Ritek dyes) Now the shop I usually order the media from stopped selling 2.4x media completly and now they are selling 8x DVD+R DL media only. It is said that the new 8x Philips DL media is made in India so I suspect those can be the same or almost the same as their Ricoh based 2.4x disks but I am not really sure. (Philips with their Ritek and CMC supplies are not that what I'd be really dying for ) So the question is if anyone who uses these media could help me and tell me whether I am right or wrong that would be great. All I need to know is whether the MII Philips DL 8x media is Ricoh, Ritek or CMC based. In case that is Ricoh I'll make an order as soon as possible as they are selling them for 1 euro each this week. I'm to order 100/200 disks and don't wanna fail, as I did last time when they sent out those budget MIT disks. Not that the money matters, but the time I am wasting with those craps as they either cannot be read back correctly *using 4-5 different burners the results are the same* or the TRT curve is just shocking me...

Thanks for all the help guys...

regards, Stephen

Re: Q regarding Philips DVD+R DL 8x media

In any case Philips branded DVD DL are manufactured following the inverted stack method

Also, only very recent burners can do well with (genuine) Ricoh DL. All older burners (> 1 year) are unable to handle them properly because the inverted stack method of manufacturing needs specific support.

This being one of the explanations why
we're all parrots and sing: "Use only Verbatim DL"

Re: Q regarding Philips DVD+R DL 8x media

Yes, but the inverted stack media is developed by Ricoh and those Ricoh dye's are just burnt very fine by my old and current burners. The problematic dye is the Ritek 2.4x one, which as far as I know is NOT inverted stack media, but low quality. That is why I am asking whether the 8x is Ritek or Ricoh. Anyway, all my burners including a Pioneer 112, a Samsung 203B, a Pioneer 111, a NEC 3540 and a Benq 1655 burnt the Ricoh dye's very well, and only the Benq 1640 had problems with the inverted stack media disks... yeah, yeah I know it's Verbatim which should be bought anyway. And thanks for your reply.

regards, Stephen

I have had no problem with Philips 8X Dvd+R DL, made in Taiwan, MID=CMC MAG-D04-00, in fact they have been a pleasant surprise. I bought a 25 pack spindle.

Yup, DL with that MID were also good for me.

I doubt that the result were "very well burnt discs".

Not that good as the Verbatims, but much much better than anything else. Anyway, well it seems the shop made a mistake and all the Phlips 8x disks they are selling now are not Ricoh but Ritek RITEK S04 / rev 066 and made in Taiwan. So the question is not a question anymore, I'll avoid from those and rather spend my money on Verbatims.

thank you for all the posts guys,

regards, Stephen

Thanks a lot for correcting me !
I was thinking that only MKM (in Singapore) and now MBIL (MKM-001 code made in India) were able to manufacture 2P method DL's
