Patricia Nimock's causes Cancer? So the other day I pick up Patricia Nimocks from the local Walmart. After going home and printing my first DVDs everything is going dandy until I open up the Walmart bag. As I'm prying the cap off the spray can, I notice a sticker on top that reads "Known in California to cause Cancer." Bottom line, how dangerous is this spray? If I spray it indoors, am I as good as dead.. if I spray it outdoors am I safe from harm.. Are there any other products (Krylon) that are more friendly.. is it safe after the spray has dried on the CD/DVD? Because when it comes down to it, I'd rather be healthy than have shiny, waterproof DVDs and a risk of cancer.

| Re: Patricia Nimock's causes Cancer? Just about any and everything causes cancer these days. I just read an article that said charred grilled foods can cause cancer... As long as you are not "huffing" it, you should be OK.

Re: Patricia Nimock's causes Cancer? Heh well it seems this thread was a waste. BTW, I also heard that Pringles chips cause cancer, so stay away from those if you want to live. If anyone has anything serious to add to this thread, please do... as I don't want to get cancer and am currently weighing shiny/waterproof DVDs over cancer.

Re: Patricia Nimock's causes Cancer? NiVRaM: I think many posts here reflect a genuine skepticism about the number and quality of warning labels that have exploded in consumer products ranging from alcohol to McDonald's coffee (Careful. It's Hot!). California is an early adopter of warnings on anything that appears to be harmful, even if it took 200 times the recommended maximum daily amount over weeks/months to produce a harmful effect in mice. (Mice, BTW, have very little explicit corollary with humans.) Attorneys, and the litigation they bring, are another reason for much of these warnings, good or bad they may be. (Why do we need warnings and instruction manuals stuck to ladders? Why do we need warnings on McDonald's coffee cups?) The absurd and the unknown both illicit humour. Such was the case here. If you really are interested to find out more about your risk, try going to http://www.msds.com/ and enter "Plaid" in the "Manufacturer" search window. Next, click on "Get All MSDS" to the right of "Plaid Enterprises". Next, click on "Folkart Acrylic Matte Sealer" to read about all the nasties contained within. You will need JAVA installed to read the PDF, as well as Adobe Acrobat Reader. Both are free. I don't have Java installed so I can't tell you what the PDF says. Alternately, you can call, write or email Plaid Enterprises (or whomever makes the stuff you want to know about) and ask for the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) which they are required to have for any appropriately harmful chemical they utilize in the manufacture of their product. If still in doubt, call your local health department, talk with your physician, a friendly and knowledgeable biochemist or don't use the product at all. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Re: Patricia Nimock's causes Cancer? If you're worried, do it outside (like under a porch) in low wind. And get a basic 3M breathing mask from your local hardware store. Problem solved. I can't believe it would be any worse than walking through a damn second-hand smoke cloud on your way in a restaurant. -Evna-
