Yeah, I don't see why not. I also used lots of Sony08D1 a while ago and their scan results are similar to these G05s. =\ Boo-urns!!

That LiteOn should hopefully do the trick ripping those discs, the same model worked for me and my rotten G05s

Well.. it appears you get half a year, to a year's life with these. Most of my burns a year old and older are considered dead. Here's a scan of one of my more recent burns, about half a year ago.
You can see it starting...if only I had known! Grr

Re: Newer Ritek Media

Get this! I threw in this DVD because I didn't know who made this. It's branded as Verbatim DVD+R and the print on the disc is of a movie reel. I burned this mid 2005, so it was burned with my BTC burner. The MID is MCC002, so it's not Ritek.
~Jason

Edit: This was burned with my Lite-On since the BTC's model didn't show up in this scan, but this is with my old firmware since I only changed almost a year ago. I'm still very impressed with this DVD though.

Welcome to the club - I've also been bitten by the infamous G05 discs. For your information, most G04 produced after Q2-2004 are also degrading rapidly, though not as fast as G05.

Now spread your knowledge! So many people are still lured into thinking that Ritek G04/G05 are great discs.

Re: Newer Ritek Media

Very good scan. So far, it only seems RITEK G04 and RITEK G05 degrade. RITEK F1, their 16x -R media, is based on Fuji OxoLife technology, so should be much more stable. Their +R discs don't seem to suffer from degradation, as I haven't seen reports of them degrading.

LOL! Was that from overusing the drive, Arachne?

I bought my LiteOn LH-18A1P (the replacement arrived for the failed original, and it is so much better in every way ) so I could save my BenQ 1655, which is probably the best optical drive I've ever had, such a shame BenQ are no more

Wow... I sometimes wonder about mine since I use it so much. Mine originally was a Lite-On (802s) DVD+R burner, that I was going to ditch. That was until I thought maybe I could upgrade the firmware and make it also a -R burner. I found an awesome firmware (VSOM) from rpc1.org and I flashed it with the 832s' firmware making it a 8X DVD-+R DL burner. Now I'm really happy with it. To think I almost got rid of it.

G05 suck ***. But their initial burn quality is good. They are very compatible media when they have not degraded lol.

I started using verbatim after I got G05 owned. Never looked back since.

It was actually death by scanning (I hadn't realised at that time that Liteys weren't good for CDR scanning). I was scanning a really old Kodak Gold CDR, and the scanning was stuck doing this one bit over and over.

Then Poof! No more CD reading/burning

Both burned on an LH-20A1H (LL06) at 8x, SB and OHT on.

I can get TRTs if needed

Re: Newer Ritek Media

This is a Maxell 16x +R RICOHJPNRO3 from Asda.
Burned at 8x on the Liteon LH-18A1P

This is a particularly good burn. Some of the other discs from the same pack were less consistent. They are quite prone to clusters of PIF.

Arachne:

Strange how both media show a Jitter jump at the same point, a 'feature' of the Lite-ON writing strategies or just scanning anomalie. Any possibility of some BenQ scans to compare?

Seems it occurs with other media too, different drive but same chipset.

Re: Newer Ritek Media

Very nice burn, skelton

My ones, also from Asda, tend to get a PIF spike of 3 at the beginning, all the discs from the current spindle have been the same, but otherwise nice too. This is on a Sammy SH-S182D. I've been happy with them, so I bought a second spindle.

A scanning anomaly, I think, if you check out my T02 scan in the other thread, that was burned on a Sammy, but has the same jitter jump when scanned on the Litey

I can scan both discs in the BenQ certainly, but I can't burn any more 'cos the discs are supposed to be for review purposes.

Here you go, TL0 - BenQ scans of the two burns above.

No jitter jump, so I'm still thinking it's a scanning anomaly

Thanks, Arachne

These scans confirmed my results that these are far from good media. I would be careful because some Traxdata Ritek R05's actually had CRC errors according to one user

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=129

O/T

I just got some MBI MCC 02RG20 discs from ebay. Legit, but bad scuff marks near the outer edge of every disc rendering them unacceptable for long term storage, seems to be a factory problem - might order the Infiniti MCC 02RG20's instead
