Re: Media Speed and Reading

What drive are you using to read the discs?

And no, writing at 8x does not mean that your disc can only be read at 8x.

If your drive really is a 16x reader then the problem could be DMA, Power Supply and even the burn quality of the disc.

Re: Media Speed and Reading

OK, my drive is LiteOn SHD-16P1S-05C.

I have tried some Retail DVDs and they read starting about 7 going upto nearly full.

So i guess it's the disc and or burn quality.

Thnx

Re: Media Speed and Reading

Hi,

it is quite normal, that optical drives read different types of media at different speeds. This isn't a surprise and can be read in the datasheets of the drives.

There are some recent Liteon DVD writers, that indeed read 8x rated media at slower speeds that 16x rated discs. As far as I remember, this was discussed somewhere in the Liteon forum here.

The LiteOn "5S" series drives (1635S and 16H5S) read 16x rated DVD±R media at 16x, but 8x and lower rated media are only read at 12x.
