liteon write quality and quality DVD-Rs I've read in different forums about the low write quality on Liteon DVD burners. Is this because cheap discs were used? What if I used Ritek G04s and T-Y? Would I encounter the same problems? Thanks for the replies. Jayel

Re: liteon write quality and quality DVD-Rs Jarthel, I have a Lite-On 411S which has been "Zebra Modded" to a 411S@811S. I've been using Ritek -R printable disks (G04 x4) for some time now with variable results. Tried lots of different firmwares, still get a ski-slope towards the end of the burn. With the exception of one or two coasters, however, they still play in a variety of stand alone DVD players (dozen or so I can vouch for) Recently purchased a NEC 2500A which I immediately modded with the Herrie fw v1.07b4 (after info found in this forum). The burns are far superior to the Lite-On (not knocking here - fact!) but the Lite-On still produces the best music CD burns you've ever seen - so it will still get heavily used. Horses for courses I suppose. Trying the "new" x8 speed DataSafe -R Ritek disks, no problems so far - but still wary because of reports posted by others. Read a post yesterday by Deadman on some new Fuji disks and have started a new thread Here I will be posting KProbe2 results over the weekend - as soon as I get chance to fire off some burns. I'll try both burners at x4 speed (for direct comparison) and use both Nero and RecordNow Max v4.5. Hope this has been of some use to you. Keep burnin'

Re: liteon write quality and quality DVD-Rs I have a Liteon 451S and I've had nothing but trouble with -R media. It works fine with +R and +RW media, but it won't even detect good -R media (Ritek G04s) anymore! I haven't written any in about a month. Originally, they would burn, but my Kprobe scans were never very good with them and they usually had many errors at the end (noticeable in playback on a PS2). Today, I've been trying to burn just one. I swear I've gone through every firmware for the drive and none will work. I recommend from my personal experience if you go with Liteon, stick to +R media!

Re: liteon write quality and quality DVD-Rs I've been using my new liteon 851s combi for about 6 months now, I updated the firmware from this site, hey presto no problems burning to Ritek G04 printable discs yet so I would'nt knock Liteon just now unless there is hard evidence that liteon burners are really shite!., other forums I,ve been to say that Panasonic, Sony, Teac, NEC, and many others are shit, so who do you believe, use your own judgement,
