Lite-On SHW 16H5S + Taiyo Yuden -R 16x - Club CDFreaks

Hey,

Having wasted hundreads of cheap dvds I have decided to shell out for some hopefully higher quality discs. I was wondering if the Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 16x would work with my Lite-On SHW 16H5S still using the original firmware (LS0W)?

Also does this store sell genuine Taiyo Yuden media ?

Hi Flinty, welcome to CDF

If you're in the UK, which I'm guessing you are since you mentioned OcUK...why don't you try www.svp.co.uk?

Lots of us on here buy from them, and they're known to sell genuine TY products (I would imagine OcUK do as well, but I've only bought hardware from them).

I'm not sure whether the -R lead-in problem is fixed in LS0W, maybe someone else with a 5S drive could confirm/deny/advise on that (i have 2 5S drives, but I'm using the YV6N test firmware, which works perfectly with -Rs)?

The main reason i chose OcUK is because their shop is a couple of miles from where I live and could go and pick them up rather than waiting a couple of days for them to be delivered.

I honestly don't see that OcUK would sell fake TY knowingly, they've got too much of a good rep to keep. As I say though, I never bought media from them, so...

Somebody reported in the LiteOn forum that the lead-in problem still exists in LS0W firmware but that it's fixed in the latest experimental (test) firmware.

I don't have the link handy right now, but a "Search" might do the trick.

- it's definitely fixed with the FW I'm running, burned about 20 -Rs the other week - all played back fine on my standalone.

Hehe, I didn't realise til I read the Test Firmwares thread that the 16H5S lead-in problem was fixed as well (as I said, I knew the 1635S was).

BTW, if you do decide to buy from OcUK, let us know if they're the real deal - always good to have more UK vendors for genuine TY!

I can confirm that OcUK sells genuine Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 16x

now my drive is having a hardtime working with them :/
