"Disc is dirty" error & stuttering

I backed up a disc with DVD Rebuilder & CCE, and then burned with Nero. When I put the dvd in my stand alone player, I get the message "disc is dirty" and the video stutters really bad.

I burned the disc at 8X on FUJI TY02 media with NEC 3500. Below is the Kprobe scan:

The Kprobe looks good to me, so does anyone know what else could have caused this?

I've seen posts where people are having problems with FUJI TY YUDEN02 media, but in those cases the Kprobe scans look bad.

Re: "Disc is dirty" error & stuttering

What is the make/model of your standalone player?
Does it have problems with other YUDEN000T02 discs or just this specific disc?
It is possible that your specific standalone just does not like this disc/dye type, which we have seen in the past.

Re: "Disc is dirty" error & stuttering

My standalone is a Sony DVP-NS315.

I usually only Kprobe my discs, and they all have scans as good or usually better than the scan in my first post, so I don't test them except for on the PC in my Liteon 167T(which the disc in question works in). But I tried about 4 or 5 other discs I burned on the Fuji TY02, and they all worked. I remember that I copied this disc with DVD Rebuilder+CCE, and burned with Nero. But I tried another TY02 disc that I copied and burned with that same method and it worked in my standalone. So I don't know why it isn't working.

Does burning the DVD with Nero, thru "DVD Video" burn the disc in the same format/layout as when you burn an .iso thru a program like DVD Decrypter? I'm not a big fan of burning thru Nero like that, but when I go the DVDRB+CCE route, what other way would be better, if any?

I was wondering, with some people having problems with the Fuji TY, if my spindle is bad. But with Kprobe scans as good as the one I posted it shouldn't be bad media should it?

Re: "Disc is dirty" error & stuttering

It could have been a faulty disc, it happens even with the best of discs. It could have been a small power spike or dropage. DVD burners like a constant voltage. Do the lights inside thew house dim when the air conditioning unit first kicks in? that is a power flux, computers don't like that. Get a UPS powerpack Back up unit. That will keep the voltage steady to your computer. Get the largest you can afford. I have a 100va for my computer and a 900va for the moniter and cable modem and router. These are good computer investment thingies.
I am sorry about the terms I'm using but the words I want won't come to mind right now. Too many dead brain cells from diet drinks, couldn't be old age, LOL.

Re: "Disc is dirty" error & stuttering

I doubt your discs are "bad".
Nero definitely does burn a DVD VIDEO disc different than Decrypter would burn an .ISO.
I try to burn only .ISO images.
Your player might not like a Nero DVD Video compilation, test again with a "Nero DVD Video" disc, and if the player behaves the same, we can blame Nero DVD Video here...

An alternative for you would be to use IMGTool after creating the DVD Video files with DVDRB+CCE.
IMGTool creates an .ISO image for you.

Re: "Disc is dirty" error & stuttering

@G_Ivan Awfulitch, I have 3 power backup units. I have one that I believe is 800va dedicated for the cpu alone. I keep everything else on the other 2 units.

@Wesociety, IMGTool sounds like just the thing I've been looking for! I hate burning thru Nero, and I always feel like I'm making a "flakey" disc with it. How long does IMGTool to make an ISO image?

I'm still going to play around with the few disks I burned with Nero and see how they do, and possibly will re-back them up.

Thanks for the help guys!

Depends on your CPU.
Try it out: IMG Tool Classic.
