CD Media with Nero CD Speed I recently bought Fuji Spindle (50 x 2) at Frys. when i run SmartBurn it shows the following info This Disc is designed for CD-RW/COMBO Drive Only. Disc Type, Material = CD-R, Cyanine ATIP Lead-in = 97m 24s 01f Norminal Capacity = 702.83MB (79m 59s 72f) Disc Manufacturer maybe = Taiyoyuden DX-dye SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 40X when i run Nero - CD Speed tool it shows average burning speed of 17 - 20 x. does it mean that this is the best burn speed i can get ? will it not burn at 40 X ? Is this CD-R good ? or should i go and return it back ? please advise... i don't want to create coasters

You may be confusing average speed with max speed. They only reach 40x at the very end of the burn. Total time for a 700MB CD should be between 3:00-3:30. What you bought are likely Fuji 24x media, which is rated at 32x by TY and 40x by Smartburn. I suggest burning them at 32x for error-free discs, but 40x will work also for most people. Here is the transfer rate test on a blank 24x Fuji disc on my 48x LiteOn: Start 18.82x End 40.06x Average 31.41x Type P-CAV I'm not sure why you get the results that you report, but I would burn a few discs and see how it goes.

CD burner i'm using is LTR - 40125S with ZS03. The CD speed shows starting speed of 19-20 x and then falls down to as low as 7-10 x. Average speed comes out to 17x. The graph is quite erratic also. (i'll try to send a snapshot very soon) the write method it shows as CAV after the test is over. it took about 7.5 minutes to burn a music CD. the Mp3 files were located on a CD on my CD drive. 7.5 minutes is just unacceptable. i'm trying to figure out is it due to my configuration or is it due to bad media that its taking so much time ? ![]() i'm using Workstation class machine IBM - Intellistation M-Pro 6868 Win2K Server PIII 766 Mhz, 128 MB RD RAM 48X LG CD - Drive, (IDE Secondary - Master - DMA if available) LTR - 40125S with ZS03 (IDE Secondary - Slave - DMA if available)

1) burning a audio CD from MP3 requires processor-intensive conversion "on-the-fly" max speed for this type of burning could be anywhere from 8x to 16x depending on your system. convert the files first, then burn. 2) Yes, crappy media can/will do this. But you do not have crappy media there. Put a blank Fuji in the drive and run CDSpeed, run the transfer rate test under "run test". you should see a report similar to what i posted. 3) Put the LiteOn as master, LG slave. If you were gettting 40x speeds prior to these CDR's, then it may be a bad batch.
