Re: Brands and disc types that are fake Taiyo Yudens. I concur. They also offer the best prices by far on genuine TY media. I order from them and newegg and I can recommend both, although rima definitely seems to have the edge on media prices. I couldn't be happier with my 8x DVD-R TYG02 discs. ![]()

Re: Brands and disc types that are fake Taiyo Yudens. Sorry I should've clarified. I was talking about the labeling on the spindle and not the discs themselves. If they were in fact made by Taiyo Yuden, then they definitely would say Made In Japan somewhere on the spindle label/box label. As for being printable discs that just convinces me even more that they are not true Taiyo Yuden. Rima.com is known for having the best prices on true TY media and a 100 pack of 8x Printable Taiyo Yuden DVD-R runs $68+shipping, so how could Sonic possibly hope to make a profit on the exact same media when thier online retailer is selling it for $33 shipped? I realize that bulk quantity purchasing/contracting could make some difference in the price but not that much. Also I find it interesting that they also sell 8x Matrix DVD-R (a confirmed fake) and the silvertop Matrix run $37 shipped for a 100 pack. So how is it that true TY Inkjet printable media is cheaper than Silvertop fake Taiyo Yuden media?

Re: Brands and disc types that are fake Taiyo Yudens. There is no "Made in Japan" on the DVD or on the packaging. Maybe they are not the real thing. The weird thing is that the scans for PI and PO errors with DVDINFOpro on the DVR-108 come out better than most of the other media I have burned and tested on it. Here is a scan I made of a 12x burn on my Pioneer DVR-108 ![]() What do you think? If you have the time and don't mind replying to THIS thread it would be most appreciated!

Re: Brands and disc types that are fake Taiyo Yudens. Well they might be okay but I am almost 100% sure now that they are not TY. I just checked shop4tech's price on 100 packs of 4x Princo DVD-R and they were $34 shipped. No possible way that 8x Inkjet Printable Taiyo Yudens (no matter what label) are coming out $1 cheaper than some of the biggest pile of shite media known to man. http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go...&cata=&s_cata= *EDIT* BTW, does it say where they are made on the packaging? (ie China, Taiwan, ect?)

Do you have any idea why the pioneer drive gives such high error readings compared to other drives? Using media such as Ritek 8x both + and - gives PO and PI higher than it seems other people get with the same media. | |

Dont' want to be rude but can People read ? I allready said that the SONIC's were fake and next we still got people questioning if there fake or not. SONIC is made in Hongkong (probally infosmart but that's a guess since so far 80% of all fake TY 's I tracked down is made by Infosmart !. I know that there are Princo, Optodisc and Gigastorrage disc's with fake TY code but compareing the stuff that comes from Infosmart based on the results so far these other 3 are peanuts.)

| Re: Brands and disc types that are fake Taiyo Yudens. OMG. I barely had time to finish the email before CD-R Media were phoning me. They have promised to get the returns dept to call me in the morning. Well the disks may be crap but I can't slate the customer service. I know this is a little off topic but the guy has recommended the TraxData DVD+R 4.7Gb - 8x Speed (RITEK R03). Are these any good? Thanks.

Re: Brands and disc types that are fake Taiyo Yudens. Are these fake? Purchased from Supermediastore.com 20, Taiyo Yuden 4X DVD+R 10 pack in jewel cases, USD$99.80 The cases say Made in Japan and have DVD+R47TY above the barccode. The disc itself says "That's DVD+R for DATA" on the leftside, "4.7GB, 1-4x speed, (RW)dvd+r" on the rightside, "TAIYO YUDEN" "Made in Japan/Fabrique au Japan" on the bottom. There's a number on the hub; TS00003I DVD Indentifier shows: Man. ID : YUDEN000 Man. Name: Taiyo Yuden Company, LTD. Media Type ID: T01 Unique Disc Identifier: DVD+R;YUDEN000-T01-000 I already had a bad burn on the Bourne Supremacy and have used only 5. That was my only bad burn in the last 300 or so. They are white printable. Do I return these? Are they fakes. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Re: Brands and disc types that are fake Taiyo Yudens. "That's DVD+R" is Taiyo Yuden's own brand. It doesn't get more legitimate than those. You say you had one bad burn, that doesn't necessarily mean much. What burner are you using for starters?

Re: Brands and disc types that are fake Taiyo Yudens. THAT'S great to hear. Thanks! I'm using an NEC ND-1100A with the latest firmware. I ripped with shrink using reauthor, titleset1 @ 100%. When Decrypter started, an error (which I forgot) message popped up so I just ok'd it and clicked retry. It went on to burn and finalise. I burned another copy with the same ISO and it came out fine so I'm thinking maybe I should have just closed decerypter and restart it before retrying. The one that I said is bad actually has the movie on it but doesn't play on my stand alone players, which are both new and play +r. I just tested it on my CPU and it is complete and plays well. I definitely should have closed out Decrypter and reopened it b4 retrying the burn. Probably, right? Last edited by dayoff; 09-12-2004 at 04:51.

Re: Brands and disc types that are fake Taiyo Yudens. Just received disks from bigpockets in the UK which were advertised as Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 8x full face printable disks. They were on special at £19.99 for 100. I can confirm they are fakes with a spindle code beginning T1M1. This code has been reported elsewhere as a fake TY. I am currently seeking a full refund. As a matter of interest, does anyone know who makes the disks with the T1M1 spindle code?

Re: Brands and disc types that are fake Taiyo Yudens. Yes. Sonic 8x DVD-R are 100% fake. I got some from shop4tech.com. Everything they got is crap. http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go...&cata=&s_cata= I only buy FUJI or TDK 8x DVD+R when it's on sale now.

the real thing (baby) Guys, In the UK you can get taiyos pretty much from source directly through cd/dvd duplicator companies. . We get them at work for 30p each on spindle from RAM products - They come unbranded straight from the factory I know they're taiyos cos they burn no C2 errors at 52 speed every time Cheers, Dan G.
