Re: Best format to backup data?? +R or -R

The Pioneer is pretty good on both, some drives favour one - eg. Liteon are reckoned to be better +R drives than -R, so with them, you might reserve -R for when it's required for compatibility reasons.

The Pioneer gets decent results on -R media that other drives struggle with, and Pioneer were in the -R camp to start with, so their drives MAY have a -R preference, and unlike the previously +R camps, they are pushing the same speed increases into -R as well.

If it suits you to, other than for +R DL, you could treat the 108 as a -R drive.

If you're in a hurry, it may be down to what supported >8x media you can get.

Re: Best format to backup data?? +R or -R

In terms of data backups, it won't really matter between the two formats as long as you get a good quality disc (ie Taiyo Yuden). As for the + format being better, the person who said that must've been referring to DVD+RW as they allow you to erase and re-write individual files instead of the whole disc. I agree that in terms of RW formats, DVD+RW is definitely superior to DVD-RW in terms of Data applications. For the write once formats though it doesn't make one bit of difference as long as you are using good quality media and take care of your discs.
