Don't know...
But according to the ATIP of those discs...
It came from Prodisc...
The label also saids
"The TOP disc manufacturer in the world!"
I wonder if that's true...
Well I don't really care as long I can use it for testing and backups...
Also for people in US, you may find some of these disc in CompUSA, they have a box branded "SMART BUY"
They are super cheap as I can say

Two things, like their CD-R counterparts.
  • A small % of money is paid to the recording companies for "audio" discs
  • There is a SCMS (serial copying) bit present which means you can't copy a copy (usually!)

On the disks labled "Audio' yes....and as Futureproof said, some of the "extra" money goes to the music industry "to compensate for lost revenue due to personal use copying"

i believe these serial are only checked in a standalone cdrw writer

so there will be no problems in your computer writer

Is there anyway to erase that byte that is contained on the CD?

SCMS is only relevant for external DACs & DATs. The bit can be 'turned off' by professional sets but who owns an ext DAC or DAT now? Most likely on a DAC/DAT forum somewhere (hehe).

Re: Audio CDRW?

I have been looking for audio CD-RW disks but haven't found any - will try CompUSA. Thanks for the tip.
My Yamaha CD Recorder (an audio system component) will read, but will not write to standard CD-RW disks, neither will it write to any other than audio CD-R's. The error message "Not Audio" is displayed in either case.
Now, the only reasonable purpose for an audio CD-RW is to record music that you are later planning to erase/re-record. In my case, old LPs that may have scratches, pops, ticks or other stuff on them that I can edit out on my computer. But I want to use the "good" turntable in my audio system to get the best possible quality off the LPs to start with. Then rip the tracks to the computer, edit with Sound Editor (manual but can get rid of most pops and ticks very well), add CD text, and burn the final result to CD-R.
How can a burned audio CD-RW be erased for re-use while retaining the SCMS bit? Can it be erased on the audio CD recorder? Would erasing it with Nero also prevent re-use on the audio CD recorder? Any ideas?
