Great interview and answers, thanks once again DoMi

Interesting to read that Verbatim are considering 16x DL, though it's a shame about the 12x DVD-RAM

Exactly, that's why I asked if there were any plans for 12x RAM from them

Re: Ask your questions for Verbatim - CD Freaks Interview series

Very good!!!

Especially q14 --- the answer I expected were given.

Quote:
14) Are there any plans to produce DVD+RW DL or DVD-RW DL?

No, we stopped development. We cannot get around the compatibility problems for such media. Due to its low reflectivity of <10% such media does not conform to the original DVD specifications rating >18% reflectivity. Hence the media would not be supported by the large installed base of writers nor by the players/ROM drives. Only specially developed equipment would support such media.

Re: Ask your questions for Verbatim - CD Freaks Interview series

It is so hard to find Super Azo CD-R in Australia! So they do actually label the discs as "AZO" if they are Super Azo. If this is true, I have not seen Super Azo in retail stores for over 2 years.

Re: Ask your questions for Verbatim - CD Freaks Interview series

Quote:
3) A lot of people on the CDFreaks forums have the impression, that Verbatim DVD media manufactured in India by Moser Baer is more variable than Verbatim media manufactured in Singapore by Verbatim or in Taiwan by CMC and Prodisc. What is your response to this impression? Is quality control a problem with your outsourced media production, and what steps if any are you taking to address this perceived problem?
Quote:
All our factories produce based on the same quality standards. They are all continuously controlled by Mitsubishi engineers and regularly audited. All factories run the same ISO 9000/1/2 based quality schemes and use the same test equipment. All factories have many production lines running within the production. Quality variation from line to line and day to day is probably higher. All our own tests do not indicate any general quality variation from factory to factory. We also closely monitor returns from distribution and endusers. Statistics do not reveal any different return percentages for any factories. We note the different perceptions within the forum communities. However, these slightly change from time to time, especially when bigger quantities from just one source are available.

This is the answer that I wanted to hear and is what I suspected it would be.

Well I thought they'd say that but it does not answer why people are getting discs with dye defects and dirt etc in their MII DL media. Their MII SL media fine as far as I'm concerned but there's more problems with the MII DL stuff than there is with the MIS IMO.

Re: Ask your questions for Verbatim - CD Freaks Interview series

well, thanx DoMi and Livia!!
good to hear about their plans for DL, and for TY supplies too
too bad to hear about the discontinuation of Metal AZO CD-Rs though... maybe i should go to the old-dead-ancient-hidden-corner-stores over here and make a deep scanning once again i found some 16X Cyanine SKC (Ritek Cyanine) 650MB blanks !! maybe i could find some of these good ol' 16X Metal AZO Verbatims or even the "Multi-speed" Mitsubishi

[1] Based does not mean compelling.
[2] Do they have plenty of rope inbetween scheduled auditings?
[3] Equipment will usually be understood as hardware (only). Hardware can be set up differently. Even a scanning LiteOn with Nero DiscSpeed or KProbe might qualify as "test equipment".
[4] The word "probably" entirely devalues the sentence.
[5] It is not very common that end users bother returning the media.
[6] I guess this should imply that Prodisc 8x Verbies were preferred before and now it's CMC-made 16x Verbies?

(Oh, and by the way, what about Taiyo Yuden? Are they continuously controlled and audited by Mitsubishi, too?)

I just doubt that this is the whole truth, I don't know why but small details (rougher top matte surface on the MII discs, etc.) make me believe this...

MII DL haven't shown up in europe as far as I know which might be the reason he could not go into that one.

I really hope you touched some wood or crossed your fingers when you typed that

Seriously. If they did turn up here I'd buy a pack out of sheer curiosity after all I've heard from our US cousins.

Welcome to the world of politics, Did you really expect that they would admit that they might have issues. It's a typical industry standard response.

Yep, IMO its the standard boilerplate answer for this sort of thing, and a bit of a let down, but TBH I did not expect anything else, I mean ..."oh, yes the MBi factory is run by idiots that cant keep up to the specs we give them and as we only check once a year thats the way it goes" would loose the bloke his job, and half the sales of MBi over night.

I have only so far ever had one 50 off tub of MII and as far as my small testing with them goes I do not had a problem, be it MII/MIT and as I only use single layer I can not be involved with multi layer side of it. I am very happy with the out sourcing of the 3 factories in question, even if I only really know of 2 of them.

If the media ID was put on to the pack this would go 99% of the way to stop my fears of getting something like Ritek or other sum such media I do not want when I buy Verb media, but I dont see that exact question answered, apart from where the reply was "Mitsubishi technology is a very important factor of our reputation for quality".

Thanks for going the extra mile, in not only getting a 'big wig' to talk, but to let us put some input to the questions ...I see this as a big deal.

Ah, thanks ...possibly because it's relating to the South America market, and I believe would have to be passed to his colleagues there to answer.
