Insert 2x certified media. Read http://www.dvdwriters.co.uk/reviews/...r/dvr104p1.htm to find out which 7 brands of media are 2x certified.

Of course. The A03 does this as well.

Of course does A03 support 2x writing. But you must insert 2x certified media, otherwise you can't select 2x.

shinatro is not 2x certified. My conclusion is, if your friend's DVR-A04 can write it at 2x, then shinatro can't be the manufacturer. Insert your media into your friend's drive. Maybe your shinatro was made by another manufacturer.

You must insert the media before you press "burn" if you want to write @2x

Yes. If it does not popup then, then your media is not 2x certified (don't forget that some manufacturers make 2x media and 1x media).

No DVD-R has a speed on its cover (there are no specs for 2x writing, every singe media must be checked by Pioneer if it can be written at 2x, and if it can, it is added to a table in the firmware; please read the review which I gave you a link for). If they don't work 2x, then the conclusion is that your media is 1x for the A04.

Is the A04 considered by most to be the best dvd writer?

@ Alexnoe, what is your recommendation for DVD writing software that will cover all tasks (of course it will be more than 1!)

Also, DVD authoring - has anyone tryed it?

> Is the A04 considered by most to be the best dvd writer?

In my opinion: yes.
In DVD+guys' opinion: no, they prefer philips dvdrw228.

It's completely your own decision if you take DVD+RW or DVD-RW. No one can predict what format will win or even if any format will win (maybe they fight this silly war till we all have blue ray disc writers).

If you want to make Data-DVDs (with divX-movies e.g), use Nero:

DVD-Authoring: Even DVDIt (costs about $500) is crap IMHO...slow, buggy, bad encoder, writes crap sometimes, doesn't seem to support burn proof...). SpruceUp is said to be good, but it isn't sold anymore

You dont need anything special for Nero to copy PSX2 games.. and +R works as well.

Unless you get a Messiah chip
in your PS2 forget using dvd backups
You can't boot dvd-r any more with the
new Ar2/GS2, that feature has been removed!

GS/AR No Longer booting DVD-R media?

ARGH!

I just recently modded my PS2 with one of those no-solder mods and bought a new GS2. My DVD burner showed up today and it appears as if it isn't going to do me much good.

Does anyone know how old of a version of the GS do I need to find? Grrrr...

FWIW, and to help any newbie trying to decide, the no-solder mod I have will not play CDR over 74 minutes and apparently needs an older GS/AR in order to boot DVD-R. You get what you pay for, I suppose.

Thanks in advance! And thank you Sarahjh69 from keeping me from burning, and burning, and burning - DVDs aren't that cheap yet!
