Working with avchd video clips

I just edited my first AVCHD video and it took 6 1/2 hours for 28 minutes of video. Is this normal?
Then at the end I got an error message saying "Error in Reading File [533-2147216499:0." I removed the disc and inserted a rewritable and it worked fine, then I tried another dvd-r and got the same message, I then inserted a dvd+r and it burned OK.
However when I compared the edited dvds to my original dvd, it looks like there is less information on the disc than on the original, the picture quality looks the same so I'm just wondering.
Any insides on this. I have been picking my brain since I purchased this program, I love editing but the learning process is very fustrating.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: Working with avchd video clips

I gather this is High Defination Video which you recorded??
HD video will take up more hard drive space. Many dvd burners prefer one type of media over another, so find one that works, and stick with it..
And, if you don't have an HD DVD burner, you will have quality loss when you burn HD video to a non HD format.

Re: Working with avchd video clips

I burned it on a regular dvd burner using the avchd format, it plays high def on my playstation, dont really notice quality loss.
So the 6.5 hours to burn is normal?

Re: Working with avchd video clips

Did you mean that it takes that long to ENCODE, or to burn?

Re: Working with avchd video clips

To encode, once it got to 99% it actually took a few minutes to burn.
Is there a better way to do this without it taking so long.

Re: Working with avchd video clips

I haven't seen anything on encoding times with avchd video. You can try searching www.videohelp.com/forums and you should find some info there. I do know that it takes a bit of time to encode to HD. Encoding time is dependant upon software and hardware.
