WinXP and movie media problems?

Since having WinXP installed Ive been having prblems playing certain AVI, MPG, and VCD formats.. I have installed DivX and I tried to install the Mpeg4 codec files needed, but WinXP refuses saying a file exists.. The VCD's no longer play, as though Windows does not know what to do with them and ALL the media players I have (BSPLayer, G-DivX, The Player, Windows Media Player) dont work either..

DO I have to force WinXP to take the drivers and install them? Im pretty confused here..

All comments are welcome

Well I have WinXP 2, and just installed the divx drivers from the divx site... works fine! Perhaps if the installation process asks you to overwrite existing files choose yes... they are probably newer then your existing files.

And they crash on all VCD's?
Wrong codec or something like that?

Youre not the only one with that problem...
I'm running WinXP Pro and I also have problems with playing mediafiles like .mpg and .avi.
I tried playing the files on WMP, Playa, PowerDivX Nextgen and Zoom Player.
Nimo Codec Pack does not seem to help...

Has anyone have ripping problems under WINXp also?

I have the latest EasyDivx 078 and I get the error message:

ERROR: Couldn't find the selection 'Divx Codec 4.12' in ComboBox 0

And thats as far as the program goes to try to ripp the DVD..

Similar message for RipItAll ..

The problem is probably because you are using the divx 3.0 codec. Upgrade to the 4.12 codec at www.divx-digest.com.

You could try this:

delete mpg4c32.dll and mpg4ds32.ax(if it exists) in your C:\windows\system\ directory and then reinstall the divx4codec.
