Whats the easiest way to merge 2 titles into 1?

If I combine 2 different DVDs (ie part 1 and 2) and want to have my chapters go from 1 to lets say 18 instead of 1 to 7 then 1 to 11, once i am past the first chapter theres no way to get back to the previous with the forward and back skip buttons on my remote..etc.

got to be a easy way to do this..it seems just need to modify the one ifo and then rename the vobs..but havent seen a easy way to modify ifos.

thanks

TMPGenc works but it only handles dolby digital..so I lost my other audio tracks (ie DTS).

To be honest, the only way iv'e done this is to rip the VOBs back to MPEG and then re-author from scratch.

Re: Whats the easiest way to merge 2 titles into 1?

I'm now doing a search to try to figure a working *and easy 'nuff for dumb person like myself to do* method to recombine one movie put onto 2 DVDs ripped by the ole 321 studios ripper before they got shut down. I've got a big handful of them to put back onto single dvds' if it's possible as I really don't like having to get up and change dvds in the middle of a movie.

in my research came across this ...

don't know if this has info you search for.. but maybe some of the pages of the guide are relavent

Re: Whats the easiest way to merge 2 titles into 1?

I'm not sure if this can be useful for you, but I found this method (sorry, I don't remember exactly where It's somewhere here http://forum.digital-digest.com/): maybe it can be useful for you

Quote:
I just used the movie "Finding Nemo" to test. After quite a few errors, I finally succeeded of eliminating the delay between each title. Here is what I did:

1- I used DVD Shrink in Reauthor mode to backup chapter 1 and 2 for the first title, chapter 10 and 11 for the second title, and chapter 22 and 23 for the last title. So, there were 3 titles in all for the backup

2- In the backup's VIDEO_TS folder, I moved the .IFO and .BUF files to an empty folder in my HDD. The VIDEO_TS folder had only three files: VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_02_1.VOB, and VTS_03_1.VOB

3- I renamed these .VOB files into: VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, and VTS_01_3.VOB

4- I opend IfoEdit and used the "Create IFOs" to create the new .IFO files for my .VOB files. After this step, the three title backup became a single title only

5- I ran the Get VTS sectors and opened my backup again with DVD Shrink. The DVD Shrink couldn't open it up and popped up the error " Invalid Data in VTS_01_3.VOB"

6- I had to do the famous "Mock Strip" to repair the stubborn VTS_01_3.VOB and redid the Get VTS sectors again. Much mahalo 2COOL and Blutach for this outstanding tip. DVD Shrink reloaded the file without problem after that and showed only 1 title instead of three

7- When everything was completely done. I tested the DVD file and very happy that there was no delay at all.

Regards

Thanks geno i did something simular with Ifoedit and renaming my vobs. it worked somewhat well just a small glitch while rewinding past the start of the second disk (would skip) but it plays fine..probably also needed to do the mock strip step for that vob, but not sure what he was talking about.

Anyways upgraded my old 'copy dvd 3' program to 'copy dvd 4' for 10$ and they have a really easy way of merging chapters from multiple disks into one title..also does a pretty damn good job of compressing too.

Re: Whats the easiest way to merge 2 titles into 1?

I withdraw my reccomendation for dvd copy 4. All it does is what shrink does creates the titles separtley..blah! and it doesnt even reorder them. Even though it says it merges titles (I guess by titles they mean dvds not acutal title sets.

Re: Whats the easiest way to merge 2 titles into 1?

There are other two tools, PGCEdit and vobblanker, but they seems really complicated to me, and I'm not sure that can do the work.

Re: Whats the easiest way to merge 2 titles into 1?

I figured it out pretty well with VOBedit and IFOedit..works well reverse speed and everything. Subtitles fixed too. I will make another thread with a tutorial on how to do this. Best of all its all free software (well a paypal donation to the writer of the software was warrented by me). But does the job well no degradation (ie not retranscoding) and navigates well..though it does create a bit more chapters than the originals, but hey more chapters is better imho.

Re: Whats the easiest way to merge 2 titles into 1?

If I can upload photos I will be putting this tutorial on the DVD copy forum, if I can not then I will have to make multiple posts for the photos.

There seems to be a total Apple monopoly on DVD related stuff for the Mac (apart from a few home made DVD players, but I think there just eye candy on top of Apple's library's).
Even Abode has not made a mac version of Premier for some reason so your stuck with the iLife stuff I guess (but I'd love someone to prove me wrong )

Hi,

IFOEDIt is great bugt does leave a lot of chapters especially if you select the 1 chapter per cell option. Using the program PGCEDIT, you can reassign/add/remove chapters very easily. This takes less than five minutes.

You need to get PGCEDIT from web

When you load PGCEDIT, you have to

1. open your dvd (navigate to folder containing DVD files). (file open or click icon)

2. In Left hand window, double click on line that looks like something like

VTST 1,1 TTN1 (41:12)

(This is is first title - you may have more and you would process each separately)

This bring up pgc editor menu

3. On main edit menu you will see columns that will loke something like as follows (In this example I show a dvd with 11 cells with a chapter for every cell)

Chap Prog Cell
(PTT)
1 1 1
2 2 2
3 3 3
4 4 4
5 5 5
6 6 6
7 7 7
8 8 8
9 9 9
10 10 10
11 11 11

You then click on all buttons in prog column to blank the chapters out as follows
(You will get message re. edit chapter menu - click ok and ignore for time being).

Chap Prog Cell
(PTT)
1 1 <--- click on this, then
2 2 <-click on this etc. To last button
3 3
4 4
5 5
6 6
7 7
8 8
9 9
10 10
11 11

You cannot blank the last cell (cell 11 here). The display will looks as follows
(where I show blank you will see nothing)

Chap Prog Cell
(PTT)
blank blank 1
blank blank 2
blank blank 3
blank blank 4
blank blank 5
blank blank 6
blank blank 7
blank blank 8
blank blank 9
blank blank 10
1 1 11

(it isn't actually necesary to blank all cells first as you can blank and assign chapters as you go. I show it this way as it is easier to follow

Now click on every (say) third cell (you may select 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc - space out to get a reasonable number of chapters.

You may get a pop up message re number of chapters Click ok.
Chap Prog Cell
(PTT)
blank blank <--- click
blank blank
blank blank
blank blank <--- click
blank blank
blank blank
blank blank <--- click
blank blank
blank blank
blank blank <--- click
1 1 <--- leave clicked or not as you prefer

The display will now look like

1 1
blank blank
blank blank
2 2
blank blank
blank blank
3 3
blank blank
blank blank
4 5
5 5

4. click on button "Edit Chapter (PTT) Table"

5. This will show how many chapters you orginally have
Click "Delete last chapter button" until you have the same number as you ended up within step 3 (must be identical). If you delete too many use add chapgter instead.

6. click ok and return to edit menu. Click Ok on edit menu to return to main menu

7 Save DVD (updates IFO files). (File save or click icon)

Re: Whats the easiest way to merge 2 titles into 1?

I'd like to share my method (which isn't all that different from the others mentioned, but hey, every little helps)

I was trying to take files from both the extended edition and theatrical edition of Return of the King to make my own hybrid version.

I used DVD Shrink 3.2 to edit the start/end times of each section, taking scenes from each DVD and basically editing the movie how I saw fit. This left me with about 7 or 8 separate titles, which would normally play in order with an annoying pause between scenes.

So I tried renaming them all to VTS_01_1.VOB through VTS_01_11.VOB, then created new IFO files using IfoEdit 0.96 and then hit Get VTS Sectors, just like the other posters did.
However, when I tried to open the files in DVD shrink again, no matter what I did, I kept getting "Invalid Data in VTS_01_9.VOB"

So I decided to try using IfoEdit to create a disc image and saved my movie as a *.img file (since I was using dual layer discs, I first had to go into the IfoEdit settings and tell it not to check the DVD size when creating an image). When I went back to DVD Shrink, I opened the disc image in full disc mode, and it read it perfectly. Then I told it to back up the image. To my delight, I now had the standard 7 VOB files rather than 11.

When I burned it onto a disc to test it, the movie was completely and utterly seamless! I couldn't even tell it was edited (not even the slighted pause in the music or video - and the best part, I have the Return of the King theatrical edition with my 3 favourite scenes from the extended edition added back in )
