Video comes after audio

I have a DivX file which I converted to MPEG for VCD use. Just before I burnt it, I made sure it was all in sync.

Pushed play..played perfectly.
Skipped ahead a bit..no problems
Skipped ahead a bit more..What?!

The video would come about 5-10 seconds after the audio, so you would hear someone shout, then ages after you would see them!

I tracked down to where the corruption started...and found it. The thing that happend is that one frame would stop moving for a bit, while the audio kept going.

I checked the source file (AVI) and found the same problem, though after it happened, the video sped up a bit to catch up with the audio, and worked perfectly after that. I know that MPEG files are a constant framerate, so I cant speed it up, can I?

I was really looking forward to this..please help
Thanks in advance

Best would be to cut the AVI into 2 pieces (using VirtualDUB), one from start to just before the problem area. The other from just after the problem to the end. Then encode both pieces separately and join/cut in 1/2 using TMPGEnc. If the second piece is out of sync, read the guide in the Tutorial section on how to fix it.
