Are VCD video files .dat or .mpg? - Club CDFreaks

I've always thought that when you extracted the 'AVSEQ01' file from a VCD it is a .DAT, but when you hold the cursor over it it says that it's a Movie File (mpeg). I'm confused - which is it?

It's a "dat-file".

but its in mpeg format :P

If you rename it to mpg it will play as an mpeg.

So depending on how you look at it. By file extension its a dat file. By file content its an mpeg file
