updated systems

My earlier post has lead me to question if I should be updating my "system"

Is the canon xl1 a good camera to be using?
Do I need to update Adobe 6.5 - will the reslt be that much better?
I have after effects 7.0 still working on understanding it?
I use My DVD to burn DVD's (I question its quality)

Are there other software/hardware that I should be adding to my system to improve output

One more question ( I know its not software related but it is important) - I have gotten different answers on this one. When I shoot video, will higher shutter speed result in smoother images or strobing/choppy images. My experience says choppy canon told me it should produce smoother images - what gives?

Thanks in advance for all your help

Re: updated systems

I'm not familiar with your camera. You should read some reviews (search google).
Adobe 6.5 is still pretty good software, but as with anything, newer is generally better. It all depends on your needs. If your version of Adobe is doing what you want it to do, then no need to change. If you want more, look at newer stuff. I've used Adobe 6.5, Vegas 5, and currently using Ulead Studio 11 plus. I got Ulead for the extras and ease of use. I still use Vegas 5 for some things, and if I had the dough, I would buy Vegas 8. But for now, between Ulead Studio 11 and Vegas 5, I can do whatever I want to do.

Personally I don't recommend MyDVD but I really don't have any problems with it either. For strictly burning, I suggest IMGBURN.

As for your shutter speed question, I wasn't aware that one could choose a shutter speed for shooting video. If you are talking photos, there are pro's and con's to higher shutter speeds.
