Sound Missing on vCD from TMPGEnc

Hello all,

I followed the guided posted by Chickenman on "How to Backup your DVD to VCD (with TMPGEnc)". Actually, I already had the video converted to .avi so I really only needed to do the conversion from .avi to .mpg per the tutorial's Step 4.

The conversion appeared to work great. The video quality was very nice; however, it only converted about the first minute of sound. After that, the sound goes completely dead while the video plays fine.

Any suggestions?

Rip the AC3 from the DVD, convert it to mp2 with BeSweet or HeadAC3e and then multiplex with your existing video.

Although it sounds like you downloaded the AVI and therefor probably don't have the DVD.

Yes I did download the video so no I don't have the DVD.

The odd thing is that this worked fine on another .avi file.

Probably not that odd. The other file was probably not damaged, unlike this one. I would still suggest that you try encoding the audio seperatly.

Also just out of interest, why follow a DVD to VCD tute when you have an AVI and there is an AVI to VCD tute?

Unfortunately not all AVI's are created equal. Its a nightmare really for those trying to convert them to other formats, 90% work the other 10% have many problems.

Read the AVI to VCD tute for how to extract the audio out manually first with VirtualDUB. Run GSPOT to see what video & audio codec the avi has.

Thanks for the answers guys. I did notice that I had the "wrong" tutorial for what I am trying to do.

I'll try the methods with VirtualDub and GSpot and see what I can accomplish. Thanks a lot of the help. I'm learning that converting/manipulating video is quite involved.......
