Problem with skipping forward in a movie

Last night I ripped and encoded the DVD Resident Evil (Zone 1) as a DivX. Anyway the movie plays back fine if you watch it from the beginning, but if you skip forward, either the sound and video do not sync properly or the player crashes. I'm talking about Windows Media Player and the included player that comes with the codec from Divx.com.

I used the latest Gordion Knot, and encoded it with DivXPro 5.02, variable bit rate and using all the "Pro" features of 5.02, strong psycho visual, gmc etc. This is under WinXP Pro, on a Duron 1200 with 1gig of RAM. Anyone have any suggestions why this might be happening? Also the movie was pretty short (1hr 40mins), so I used quite a high bit rate (over 800MB/s) and was still able to fit it on a single CD.

i had the same problem using viddomi to encode the abyss:directors cut into divx 5.01 non-pro. The movie is quite long: 3 and a half hours actually, and whenever i seek forward it goes spazzy with the a/v sync. wors great to start with. I encoded at like 929 or something like that to fit on two cds. I even tried encoding one vob at a time and appending all he segments back into oe file and it still did the same thing. Ive done many dvds b4 and this is the first time this has happened to me.

I'm not sure why you are having sync problems, but you may want to try bsplayer found at http://www.bsplay.com

This player handles the audio and video perfectly. I rate it the best divx player available.

The only time I've been able to get the divx player bundled with the codec to function without the sound going out of sync, was when I converted my divx to a mpeg4 file.

But then again, the divx player was setup to handle mpeg4 files.

Actually, all the DivX movies I have (and they range from being encoded with 4.11 to 5.02 ) get out of sync when you skip forward. Maybe because the files are so big.

I've had this happen with a few DivX's which I've downloaded, but never with one I made myself (and I've made some pretty big ones). I thought this might be because of one of the options I selected while encoding, esp. one of the Divx5 Pro options. I'm using the GAIN spyware Pro edition BTW.

I've had this problem with Divx 5 pro... I couldn't find a solution so I switched back to 4.12.

I have probs with the Divx Player also, but I've since tried the BSPlayer, (link further up in this thread). This player only loses sync when I fast forward or skip several times in quick sucession. I have to try hard to make it lose sync, but it can. In normal use though with the occasional FF or skip when watching a movie, I think it will be fine.
