Video Edit Software Discuss, Problem joining Xvid's with ac3. at International Chat: Software related forum; Is there any other program that works well besides virtualdub to join 2 avi's? Whenever I try to join 2 avi's that have 5/6 channel ac3 audio, I get a loud chirp at the join. I have been encoding the 2 files seperately, and then authoring them

I have been encoding the 2 files seperately, and then authoring them so that the second file plays immediately at the end of the first one, but I don't care for the slight pause while it is doing so.

Give Nandub a try. I'm not sure about the 5/6 channel deal, but, Nandub has worked for me when Virtualdub didn't in the past. I believe Nandub is simply a mod of Virtualdub.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot...
but if I wanted to encode the 2 avi files seperately, does anyone know of a way to make the transition smoother (without any slight delay) in DVDLAB?

Join the mpegs together in Womble or other NonLinear Editor before, then remove any overlapping frames.
Author as normal.

Re: Problem joining Xvid's with ac3.

rbph,

You manage to sort the chirp out ? As I'm having the same problems with 2 xvids files each having ac3 5 channel sound in the avi. I joined the 2 xvids with nandub using direct stream copy on both audio and video. I then extrated teh ac3 5 channel with nandub saving as a wav then fixing this wav with besplice to make it ac3 compliant again. But on just playing back the extracted sound on its own in media player still get a really loud chirp.

1. Did you get any audio synch issues when trying to merge the 2 avis and playing with ac3 ?

2. Is your original method just better, ie. enocding and simply playing 2 file immediately after 1st file is finished ?

Hope you can help

Thanks.

I am still using virtualdubmod. Its a crap shoot. Sometimes I get the chirp, sometimes I don't. If I do get the chirp, then I use "besliced" and it does a good job removing that chirp.
