Problem decrypting 'Signs' - Club CDFreaks

got the german version of signs and tried to decode it but didn't get a useful result.

there are blocks in the decoded movie.

the movie plays back without problems and with powerdvd 3.0

i tried several tools: decss, dvddecrypter,vobdec
none of them worked
i even tried to fiddle around with those dvddecrypter settings - with the same result

i tried two other pc's and had the same problems (but there are different dvd drives: lite-on 165, lite-on 163, aopen, toshiba 5002, toshiba 1712, hp 500i)
none of them would work to my satisfaction.

The problems in the stream are more visible on scene changes than normally in the movie.
The movie is not the only one, there are some very few other movies that won't work. BUT: i did it several times with other movies (e.g. blade2, austin/goldmember) and this worked pretty well!!
So please don't tell me where i can find these FAQs!!!!!

Are you refering to the de-crypted VOB files on your HD or after encoding? If after encoding, how did you encode them?

Have you tried SmartRipper to rip to HD ? Has the DVD been cleaned before ripping also?

i got it.

the bad boy was the 'ligos mpeg splitter' and the 'ligos mpeg video decoder' 8)

tried to kill the codec with the codec sniper. now it's NOT gone but it shows 'broken'. not very good but good enough for some tools to get the right codecs again...
maybe i make a new installation soon.

the key to the codecs is graph edit!!! great!
