| Problem with BITRATE using DIV-X 5.02 Pro Hi. I have a strange problem when I make the avi using Div-X 5.02 I select 1-Pass and 3600 Kbps Audio mp3 256 Kbps. If you calculate it, 3600/8 = 450 KBytes and 256/8 = 32 KBytes Well, this is a bitrate of 482 KB/s. The problem is that the final bitrate is much lower (200 KB/s) although i put 5000 kbps or 6000 kbps. Why this?? PS: I don't mind i can't use high bitrates because with 200 KB/s it's enough for me. What i don't like is that i can't predict the final size of the film, and with my P-II 450 i can't code the film 2 or 3 times to find the "correct" bitrate.

| If you haven't tried Gordian Knot, for encoding, give it a try. The bitrate calculator is extremely good. You can get it from here . The other part of your question relates to the DivX codec. After a certain bitrate, it begins to be more "variable". Let's say that you specify 5000 kbps, but a scene can be done with 2000 kbps - it will only use 2000 kbps. This is probably why your calculated bitrate is much higher than your actual bitrate when you are specifying such high bitrate. |

| With GordianKnot, under the bitrate tab - select Calculate AVI file size instead of calculate average bitrate. Then you can fill in whatever bitrate you want and see what that does with the total file size. I haven't done it this way, only the other way around so I can get the right size for a 1 or 2 CD avi. I can't say how accurate the calculator is with bitrates above 1500. I believe that GKnot uses VirtualDub to make the avi, and NanDub to multiplex, so the GKnot bitrate calculator should still work for you. Besides, the codec is what matters for file size, not so much VirtualDub. If you do try it, please let us know how accurate the calculator in GKnot is for high bitrate encoding. |
