pioneer 16x dvd only ripping at 6x Max

Have a Pioneer 115 DVD 16x, have tried to put it all different spots on IDE Channels, changed ATA drivers etc, changed IDE Cables... checked DMA in Intel Application Driver Companion ...says its going at Ultra DMA 2, But when I put in a DVD while in WinXp it never fully spins up, and when going into SpeedRipper, only rips at between 4-6x.....used to go at 16x in Win98 and only take 3mins.....now takes about 14mins...any ideas?

Cheers

Also are you having ripping trouble ripping an Audio CD?

My Pioneer DVD-105 is 16x too and it rips Audio CDs at 40x near the edge of the disc. It's 16x DVD/40x CD, so if you're ripping an Audio CD, and in Win98 it used to rip ONLY at 16x, I'd say you were having some sort of trouble already. If you are ripping a DVD though, 6x isn't bad. Remember, you will get faster as you near the edge of the disc. Otherwise, is it installed with the correct drivers?

Yeah got Aspi installed......and i have no probs with normal cds....when i insert a normal cd....it spins up to max...and then when using clone cd....copies up to 40....but when i put in a dvd it doesnt spin up to its max...it stops halfway then only copies at 6x....dont know what "drivers" for the dvd ur talking about......and i forgot to mention that i have the firmware v127 "region free" installed on DVD.....didnt think that would be the prob....but i dont really no much about anything anyway

I don't really trust any ripper besides SmartRipper. But the 6x speed could be because the DVD is encrypted and its reading the info slow so the cpu has time to decrypt it into .vobs. Give SmartRipper a try if you want, but 6x isn't bad at all.

Hope this helps,

Isn't Nero DVD Speed sorta like DriveSpeed? Like it sets limit on the drive? Just turn it to default and never run it again.

Hehe found that it had to do with the DVD having many encrypted blocks.....put an uncrypted DVD in there and copied in 3 mins.....
Thanks for all the feedback though.....

Good luck on all future rips.
