Need to make video MUCH brighter - how? With what?

Hello.

My boyfriend's Nephew has during a recent trip "shot" a video clip of a live performance - however he, being 10 years old, had no idea that "night mode" should be used.

Now i have a video which plays nicely but - it's all pitch black! When playing it in WMP (it's a mpg file) i can use the "video settings" to make it quite bright enough, also all colours look fine.... but the video has to be converted to play on a mobile device, and there is no "brightness" tool.

So i took VideoEditMagic to it, but the result is bad - ok bright enough but all red! I played with the various options but that software just can't get it done.

Therefor my question - with WHICH software can i use and HOW do i need to use it to convert the unviewable original file into something that looks like in WMP with the "brightness" slider all the way to the right?

Please advise me, thanks in advance

Your Thanh

Welll...4 weeks later...I´ve just spotted your post. I´m sorry, but hopefully you´ll look back here.

Basically there´s not a lot that can be done to give you a really decent effect. The clip is underexposed...so, very little data was captured by the camera´s chip. New data cannot be "created" or added.

Some video capturing/editing software can give you a brighter output however. I normally use Adobe Premiere for my videos...and it has an option for brightening (lightening) frames...save the output as an mpeg.

The paramaters for the output can usually be specified (I haven´t used anything other than a standard output size), or you can convert it later with various programs such as Super.

Hello

Thank you for the reply, altough by now it is of course way too late. I did try a lot of different softwares on the problem, none did the job.... i ended up running it in WMP and using the camera to "capture" it off the screen again, THAT became bright enough

With kind regards.....
