Need help with making a slightly complex VCD or DVD

ok this is making my headspin because usually i just copy dvds, i've never done anything like this before, burning a vcd isn't too hard, but with subtitles in xvid coding is driving me mad....

i have 3 Files

XXXX.avi (the movie which is is Xvid format)
XXXX.srt (i'm guessing the subtitles)
XXXX.nfo (whatever)

and i have "DVD2SVCD" software, i can get any additional software if required

i need to burn this into a DVD or VCD or whatever i have the resources, aslong as it works on the dvd player with the subtitles i'm happy.

my dvd player can play VCDs but i'm not sure if my friends dvd player can

tomorrow i'm taking this movie to a party, if needed i can take my dvd player but i'd rather find some way of just having this movie packaged into a standard dvd

what do i need to do.

If you want to make it properly, start reading some guides on videohelp.com ...
If you need assistance, I'd be happy to give you some.
But please check out the guides FIRST.
