Joining Divx

Ok, I managed to convert a divx and get it onto a DVD-R at last, so I decided to try a few others. Most are two files and I was going to use VirtualDub to join them however a lot of them have are xvid and the data rate is slightly different on the second disc. Is there a way to recode them to the same datarate or a way to join them as they are?

HI

I used a program call avi syncro which fixed the sound and frame rates, then took back to virtual dub and the joined them, i think you can also join in avisyncro and even reencode.

usually it is the audio stream encoded to VBR MP3 that causes problems joining .avi files.

Load your 1st movie in Virtual Dub and direct stream copy the video, and full process the audio, compressing it to PCM, then save that video file. Do the same for the other parts you wish to join.

Now got to File and select the 1st part of the movie which has the PCM encoded audio and open it. Set both Video and Audio to direct stream copy. Go to File and select Append AVI Segment, and select the 2nd part of your movie with PCM audio.
Save as... and save.

if the file joined OK, load the joined file in VD, direct stream copy the video, and full process the Audio, and compress to MP3 at whatever bitrate you would like (this can be done in the Append Segment step, but I prefer to encode the audio in a seperate step to help avoid audio/video sych issues)

I dont bother joining the 2 AVI's together any more. To many Audio problems.

If both AVI's are of the same length (time wise) then set the final cd size in the Bitrate Tab of DVD2SVCVD to 2200 ( 1/2 of 4400) and encode both AVI's separately.

I then author in Maestro (probably can also do the same in SpruceUp) by loading the fist encode into Movie1 and the second into Movie2. Add chapters to both and link the Action for the end of the last chapter of Movie1 to play the first chapter of Movie2. It plays back seamless and without audio problems.

Again thanks, I think I will try the 2 file option, as I normally use Maestro and knew its possible to arrange movies to play as one just wasn't sure how to get the files to the right size
