Jittery play-back, Adobe video elements 2

when I'm editing and add c.d. music to music track, the following video clips resemble Charlie Chaplin.
Adobe Video Elements 2 is new to me and I would appreciate any advice.

Are you adding the music as a new track? What file type is coming from the cd (MP3, AC3???) If you don't know, run gspot against the cd. What hertz are you setting the audio to (48hz)?
