How to get mpegs out of vob container

I have a DVD camcorder. As you all know, these cameras finalize the discs to play in a DVD player. However, each "clip" that you film is not a stand-alone vob - the camera places the clips into vob files.

Is there an app that will allow me to extract the mpegs from the vob? I can do it visually with some video editing software but I wonder if there is an Explorer type program that allows me to open the vob container and grab stuff from inside.

Re: How to get mpegs out of vob container

Judging from what you say, your "clips"are either chapter points of a movie title set or movie title sets contained in a VOB SET. To illustrate:

1st VOB SET (VTS_01_X - VTS_01_X)
--- Movie TITLE SET 01
--------- chapter 01
--------- chapter 02
--------- chapter 03
--------- [and so on...]
---- Movie TITLE SET 01
--------- chapter 01
--------- chapter 02
--------- chapter 03
--------- [and so on...]

2nd VOB SET (VTS_02_X - VTS_02_X)
- movie TITLE SET 01 [and so on...]

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Since I dunno if your "clips" are chapters or movies, I can't say if the following programs will help you because they will only pull out (or demux) the MOVIE TITLE SETs contained in the VOB SET conveniently for you. After that, you can edit them or mux them back. BUT if your "clips" are certain chapters within a MOVIE TITLE SET, then you need a program that will directly demux the chapter points from a movie title set, which is contained in a VOB SET and I dunno a program that does that.

Try using these:
PgcDemux
Vobrator

They demux the video (.m2v or .mpv) and audio (.ac3, etc) streams of the MOVIE TITLE SETs from each VOB SET. From there you can edit the streams or merge them back using your video editing software. Although I dunno if they demux the chapter points for each MOVIE TITLE SET contained in each VOB. From that piont on you may have to google for answers.

Re: How to get mpegs out of vob container

You can pull out individual chapters quite easily from a DVD using DVD Decrypter in IFO mode. In the diagram below:

A. Select the title on the DVD that you want to copy chapters from (pane highlighted as '1' below). In this example I selected VTS_02.

B. Then from the chapters pane for that title (highlighted as '2'), select/deselect the chapters for copying. In this case I selected chapter 3.

C. Then, from the menu bar go to 'Tools' -> 'Settings' -> IFO tab, and make sure that 'File splitting' is set to 'None' (highlighted as '3').

D. Press the green triangle arrow, and that chapter will be transferred to the computer's hard disk.

Finally, rename the resulting '.vob' file extension to '.mpg'.

Sweet. well there ya go imkidd57: DVD Decrypter 3.5.4

Thanks for providing the link to DVD Decrypter, but why do you say is this relatively expensive utility is indispensible, in a thread about extracting camera recordings?

if you asked me how to get the loudest sound out of my car stereo system i'd say get an amp and speakers. then i'd recommend getting a fuse, even though you don't technicaly need it to work but it's there for a safety reason.

DVDidle pro is not expensive --- i got it for free from the internet.

Pretty bad analogy, I'm afraid - you don't need such caching software at all to rip from unprotected DVDs, and when did fuses cost $40?

Thank you for not posting a link to your warez source; this is not allowed on CD Freaks .
