HELP!! DviX XviD.avi editing & fixing software

Hey everyone!

Well, I've found myself in that position that all musicians find themselves in where they are never satisfied with their equipment set up. Even though I am a musician I'm actually talking about my Home Entertainment system. LOL

I'm currently using a Philips DVP5960/37 DVD/DivX player connected to a Western Digital MyBook Exterrnal Hard Drive.

What I do is either rip or download (ripping on this computer takes a while cause of processor speed) TV seasons or my movies (mainly porn LOL) and house them on the hard drive for easy access.

My problem aside from the fact that the DVP's browser will only allow for 8 characters in it's file naming system, is that it is REALLY finicky about the files it will play.

A great majority of my files, including some that were previously unplayable on my previous Philips DivX player, will play just fine. However, there is a large majority of things that are not recognized at all by the player. It attempts to load the file and then skips it.

Example:
Friends season 2. All 24 episiodes are housed in a single folder and named 201.avi, 202.avi etc. When I select 201.avi the screen goes black as the player is OBVIOUSLY trying to load the episode but the problem becomes apparent after about 10 seconds when the screen returns to the players browser screen at the bottom of the file list suggesting that it attempted to load 201 and failed then 202 and failed all the way down to 224 with complete failure. This happens with all the seasons EXCEPT season 1??? WTF!?

Other shows play fine with the exception of House MD episode 5 of season 3.

Anyway, I'll ask my question now...

What software is there that will fix these files so that the player will recognize them?

Also, I need a file joiner that will join files reguardless of sample rate. If this cannot be done then I need something that will change the sample rate without any quality loss.

Again, I think I'm asking for a wetdream in binary, but I have to ask!

Re: HELP!! DviX XviD.avi editing & fixing software

To join Avis with VBR audio use Virtualdub Mp3 Freeze or Avidemux I have pretty good luck with virtualdub. Every now and then i get one where i have to use avidemux wheni get two where the audio data rate doesn't match up.

To make your avis work in your standalone you may want to look at AVI Recomp I haven't had to use it yet so i don't know how well it works but it may cure your problem.

I'll check out the two you mentioned, I've seen the VirtualDub name pop up alot while I've been researching this question, so I guess, there might be something to it.

Cool, I'll let you know how the AVI Recomp program works out for me.

I did it!

I used the Avidemux program to accomplish EXACTLY what I wanted as far as fixing the files. I used GSpot and found out that they are ogg format and I fixed it from there.

Thanks!
