HD capture

Having recently bought a Canon HV10 HiDef camcorder I am surprised by the lack of software for actually capturing HD.
Bought Pinnacle Movie Box which included Pinnacle 11 editing software, which is supposed to be suitable for HD- but looks like it only supports editing- there is no capture!
Find all this rather annoying having paid a lot of money for HD and now cant capture! Its like buying a digital camera and you cant download pics- utterly useless!
I have now gone back to using normal DV mode!

Anyone know of some free HD capture software?

Re: HD capture

With most digital video sources you simply copy (transfer) the file to your computer. What media does the Canon HV10 HiDef camcorder record to? Does it have a FireWire connection? I'm sure they made some provision to access the recording.

Re: HD capture

Did the canon come with software?

That's strange. I have Pinnacle Studio 11 and it can capture digital video (via Firewire). According to the website (here)
Quote:
Capture Options
  • Capture from DV and Digital8 camcorders or VCRs (requires a FireWire® port on your PC)
  • Capture from analogue camcorders, 8 MM, HI 8, VHS, SVHS, VHS-C, SVHS-C, or VCRs (NTSC/PAL/SECAM). Requires DirectShow® compatible graphic board or TV tuner board with analogue (Composite or S-Video) inputs on your PC
