Well using the handi DVtool program it decided that the starwars movie should be encoded at 1168Kb/s to fit onto two 700mb cds.

So thats what I encoded at. After cropping the video (to remove the black strips from top and bottom of the video) I ended up with 640x272 resolution. The dvd was PAL anyway.

I dunno why but the guide said to resize it to 640x360 and then crop it. Isn't there some way where you can get more picture vertical wize?

The whole 2 passes took like 12hours+ with divX 5.05pro and encoding on a 1.1Ghz Athlon. Your processor is like twice as quick so your lucky there!

What do those other codecs stand for? I've never really heard of them before.

RMV9 = RealMedia Video9 (sometimes refered to as RV9).
Which generates files that can be viewed with the RealMedia player, or others that can handle .rm or rmvb file extentions.

WME9 = Windows Media Encoder 9
Which generates files that can be viewed with the WindowsMedia player, or others that can handle .wmv file extentions.

WMV9 = Windows Media Video 9
Which generates files that look the same quality as WME9 but can be viewed with a variety of players that can handle .avi file extentions.

You did not metion the player you are using to view your encodes. Is it the Windows Media Player 9 or the DivX Player 2.1?

Yea I forgot.

I use WinDvd 4 for playing most of the time. If I want to watch the VOB files that smartripper put on the hard drive, I use PowerDvd 4.

Windows media player I basically never use, except for mpeg video on occassion.

Cheers.
