Re: Editing movie stored on HDD ?

It would help everyone to know exactly what type of file you have on your HD that you want to edit Is it an AVI, DV, MPEG, etc ?

Have you actually tried Pinnacle Studio or Ulead Video Studio ? Neither require a 1394 card (Firewire) present just to edit a file.

Re: Editing movie stored on HDD ?

The file types are Nero Show time, I originally used a stand alone Liteon 5005 linked to a VHS recorder to convert to Disc, then dropped them onto my HDD.
Pinnacle Studio 7 will not open without a 1394 card (at least that is the message I get when attempting to do so)

No thats not file type, thats the association. Windows has associated the file to Nero Showtime so that if you double click them, Nero Showtime will run, load in the file and auto show them.

Re: Editing movie stored on HDD ?

With a VIDEO_TS.VOB & IFO file, then I assume there are also VTS_01_1.VOB file and maybe other VOB files as well. If so, then its already authored into DVD folders/files. I dont think Pinnacle will import VOB files. I'm not aware of any specific VOB editing software for what you want to do. I edit all my stuff BEFORE they are converted to DVD Vobs files.

Re: Editing movie stored on HDD ?

I do seem to be going around in circles here.
I seem to have to get the VHS files to the PC, then edit them.
I'm looking at a TV card on Ebay which dosn't seem to have two ports for the VHS inlet, just one called AV. Is it not possible to simply transfer both sound and video and, if so, how, do I need a special lead. I have a VCR with scart and one with AV, which to use please. Windows MP looks very attractive after all the complicated things !

Re: Editing movie stored on HDD ?

I just spent almost a year messin with capture cards and got fed up and bought a AVerMedia DVD EXMaker Pro USB 2.0 package and no problems since. I took all my racing and hunting VHS tapes and converted them to DVD without any problems. It came with Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2SE and VideoStudio 7 SE and seems to work OK for what I want. I even record from my DV camera with noooooo problems. Just a thought!

Re: Editing movie stored on HDD ?

Thanks for your input. After messing about myself for what seemed like a year I've settled on Belkin DVD Creator which came with VideoStudio 6. Have just produced my first DVD fron VHS with no problems and none of the recent hassle. Wish I'd gone there first, fantastic !!
