DVD2svcd crash recovery

I recently did a (long) movie, using the most recent version of DVD2svcd, but was forced to stop it before completion (we were going away and my wife wouldn't wait any longer ). I managed to at least get as far as making the three bbMPEG muxed files, thinking I could use the crash recovery function when we returned home. Unfortunately, there is NO crash recovery file!

ChickenMan, any idea why it wouldn't have made the file? It always worked on the earlier version.
And is there any way I can complete the process and make my cue/bin files?

Or do I have to start all over again?

Next time make sure you have Auto Shutdown box ticked. So you can go on holidays and it will auto shut the PC down when finished.

I'd say you shut DVD2SVCD at some wrong time and the recovery file not available. I have never seen this problem, I have always been able to recover.

If you have 3 mpg files, then just load each in turn into VCDEasy, convert the Title image and Next CD image to mpg (in Tools/MPG Stills) and load these in as well.
Set chapter points, and burn. For disk 2 no need for title image and for Disk 3 its just the mpg only. Read the DVD to VCD (using DVD2SVCD) tutorial, it explains how to use VCDEasy, just select SVCD instead.

Last things first - I used the internal ripper as I wanted the original DVD chapter points for this movie, so I'm not sure whether your suggestion will work?

I've used crash recovery several times (previous version) at varying points in the conversion process and it's always worked. I haven't had to set anything, it just works. I tried another run last night and stopped it after it had gone a lttle way, but still no crash recovery file. I'll have to try a couple of runs and stop them at various points to see if it's consistent.

It didn't occur to me to use auto shutdown 'cos I never use it 'cos I don't like it. Call me paranoid, but I don't like leaving power into the PC if I'm not around!!

There should be a subtitle list that DVD2SVCD made. It will be a file you can open in Notepad. Just use that to set the Chpter points in VCDEasy with. Easy for disk 1 but disk 2 you have to take off the length of Disk1 (in min) and in disk3, take of the sum of disk 1&2.

Okay, Hi Paranoid. I leave my PC running every night as it encodes and it auto turns it self off when finished sometime in the early morning. Thats the only time it gets to cool down.

We are refering to DVD2SVCD 1.1.1 Build 2 that your having problems with recover ?

Yep, latest version, build 2. Anyhow, I started another rip last night, when it finished the audio, about 45 mins., I stopped it and tried recover. It worked. I then tried recover on the other movie and this time it found the recovery file, which it definitely couldn't find the previous day. Aarrgghhh!

Only problem is it wants to start from the beginning, the conclusion being that if it is stopped after the muxed mpeg files are made, it must consider that it's finished it's job?

Oh well, if I learn something new each day I guess I've achieved something useful.

Just heard that AMD CPU's have dropped significantly in price, and with ram creeping down too the upgrade is getting closer.
Oh joy.
