For those who had trouble putting two and two together:

Quote:
A summary of the Intellikey survey, which was funded by Pioneer
Now, guess which summary ranked the Pioneer supported format higher in relation to the other formats?

(You get three guesses, and the first two don't count ).

Shows how much a companies decisions can sway based on who's supporting them.

Easy : none of them does, since Pioneer supports DVD-R(W) which loses in
both studies

Eh?

In the pioneer-funded study, DVD-R tied for first in compatibility (And RW is so uncommonly used, not many people will think it's score matters much.)

Not to mention that they used a video file which is too small IMO.

Of course. The disc should at least contain 4485 MB. Otherwise you can't see if it's read till its end properly. Especially because crap media often is hardly readable out there.

Yes, but all in all according to these studies -
format is at best as compatible as the + one,
and usually less compatible. Hopefully this will
spare us the posts with fanciful compatibility
claims we had in the past (although for some
reason I fear some people will still not be
convinced...).

I won't be convinced unless we see compatibility numbers *for each media manufacturer separately*.

Look over to doom9, and you'll see that some dvd-r media has at best something like 10%, while Mitsubishi and TDK media seems to work on almost every player (I think they have found one player which requires Mitsubishi dvd-r media to be recorded at 1x speed in order to playback)

How can one give a compatibility number in general for dvd±r(w) if most players only play media from certain manufacturers? How does that make sense?

Luckily it makes sense to a lot of people who don't care about your opinion.

OK. You want another of those funny statements?

Here it is:

quote from that link (use babelfish if you want to):

Quote:
Kompatibilitäts-Test in Computer Bild 12/2002:

"Alle DVD-Spieler* spielten die DVD-Rs des DVR-A04-Brenners von Pioneer ab."

*70 Modelle verschiedener Hersteller

I don't feel there's any more reason to hold this thread sticky.
