People can make SVCD if they want to stand up during the film to flip or change a disc. That's even cheaper.

so is it or isnt it possible to backup a dual sided dvd by doing a simple copy of each side of the dvd.

If yes, i dont know why people bother wasting their time editing ...

TIA

No it isn't, but you can of course decrypt it and make 2 images and burn them.
But only if you really want to stand up during the film only to insert a new disc.

I am sorry to be so ignorant, but please can you expand on the 'decryption' process - is it ripping to the Hard Drive?

Also, is a pressed DVD and a dvd-r the same in terms of capacity ie: 4.7 GB?

decrypt = use smartripper or similar tool to copy it to the hard disc.

A pressed DVD can be 4,7 GB (single layer) or 8,5 GB (dual layer).

The interactivity of the DVD can give lots of troubles if you "split" it in half.

Imagine you press the MENU button and the 2nd disc is in ...
