dvd burner problem

hi all,

My dvd burner TDK dvdrw0404n usb device (portable dvd burner) was working fine until last night. All of a sudden, now I can't get my DVD burner to recognize my blank dvd's. It says in "my computer" that my DVD burner is a cd burner. when no dvd is in the burner it shows the DVD icon. when I put in A DVD, it shows the icon as a cd, when clearly it is a dvd! it won't work in my sonic reel dvd software at all and gives me an error when I try to burn a dvd. what is up here? BTW, the burner works fine in my other computer, and I just burned some files to it on there, no problem, so I assume this has something to do with my computer here. I NEED it on this one though, as this is where I have all my editing work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 3MAN

here is some specs for my computer

Re: dvd burner problem

Have you tried completely removing the USB device in device manager, and then rebooting and let windows autodetect the device.

Re: dvd burner problem

yes..... it does not work. I disabled the burner in the device manager, rebooted, and let it autodetect. Nothing. Funny thing is, I just popped in a DVD movie and watched it no problem. But I put in a blank DVD, the icon shows up as CD drive :F and when I click on it I get... F:/ is not accesible. incorrect funtion.

That's exactly what's supposed to happen. By "supposed to" I really mean that's just the way it does happen whether that was by design or accident.

Windows doesn't support blank DVD media without specific burning software.

Re: dvd burner problem

Ok, I know that happens.....Ok, let me rephrase the problem, I don't think I'm approaching it right. When I go to burn a DVD in Sonic reel DVD LE 3.1, I get this error:

error MuxfromDB:MuxVST failed
error multiplex failed
error DVD video files could not be created.

I never had a problem with this program working before, now I just decides to give me these errors.

Also, why does the blank DVD turn the drive icon to a CD drive when I put in a blank DVD?

Re: dvd burner problem

Muxing failed so it cannot ever be burned.

Re: dvd burner problem

MUXing? He3ar is a more detailed log of my problem...

Info Multiplexing VOB Main Stream
Error Video or Audio Buffer underflow: (Dts: 836067, SCR 836080)
Error Total bitrate is too HIGH. Please reduce the stream bitrate or the number of stream.
Error Multiplexing VOB "C:\Documents and Settings\ben ladieu\Desktop\CET projects\bear valley\mux_data\\bear valley-begin 125 to guide rail_D_1_t.vob" failed.

Does this muxing thing mean all my projects are screwed? Can I ever use this program again or should I just get a new one?

Re: dvd burner problem

Some authoring apps will just report that the bitrate is higher than the standard and allow you to continue but clearly others will not continue the process.

I use DVDLab Pro from MediaChance and I don't think it has such a problem. It has a 30day full trial. Might be worth a look.
