| 'DVD-9' into _____? Howdy, all. I don't know much about the dvd format war but it seems that none of my family -and extended families' dvd players can read a series of discs which are identified on the outside as 'dvd-9' which is supposed to be a high data density disk or whatever... The actual amount of data contained on a single one of these particular discs (verified via dvd decrypter) is consistent with 'dvd-5'. I've tried copying it to a dvd-r and then seeing if that would work and it's no go -although my player recognizes all other copied movies and my computer can read both the original and the copy just fine. Is there a way to copy the data on the original disc and change it slightly so it will play on my families' dvd players? ps: why won't any of my players recognize dvd-9? -or is the format even the culprit? pss: is there a way to 'flash' the 'software' of my player such that it will recognize formats more common in asia and europe? |

| Re: 'DVD-9' into _____? 'kay - if we are talking store bought original DVD's here all the DVD-9 signifies is that it is a dual layer disc. This is a standard DVD format and all players with the DVD logo should be able to play them. However, if these discs are copies on + or - DL media not a lot of stand alone players will read them. So the first question is are these store bought pressed DVD's or copied burned DVD's? |

| Re: 'DVD-9' into _____? Have you ripped the dvd9 to your PC's HD yet and been able to play it from there. If you have and it still wont play, then the disk is not the problem but the way it was made. If it does play off the HD, then as you said it was DVD5 size anyway, so just burn to the normal DVDR's you have always used and that have worked before.

| Re: 'DVD-9' into _____? how does one play an iso or one of those multi part files? (still using windows 98) i really thought that once i burned it onto a dvd-r it would work but i've already tried that (rip and burn via dvd decrypter) and it's no go :/ EDIT: actually, if that SHOULD have worked, i'm finding that somehow my dvd burner has either crapped out or something is amiss because i can't seem to rip any more dvds of any kind (after a few minutes into ripping procedure, burner never really speeds up and dvd decrypter starts reporting retries until i finally get a message about an i/o error) and right from the beginning, ripping and burning has been very slow even though i'm using the latest firmware from these forums and reportedly good media. i'm actually beginning to suspect that there might be a hardware problem on my end, though i don't know how to test for it... i'm really not sure what the problem is. -that said, before my pc/burner crapped out -if it did- i was able to burn a copy of a copy (dvd-r) of another movie and that one played perfectly and before that, i did burn the dvd-9 onto a dvd-r and my pc can play that just fine... i hate when technology doesn't work right ![]() EDIT: a more detailed thread about my new problem: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread....39#post1223435 i sure hope someone can help me out. |
